Not me I specifically said "I think there are starting to be people catch up to our vehicle "gross" weight." to avoid any misunderstanding.:)

However I did say "Paladine is carrying some baggage also." which of course can be taken out of context, your not from Texas are you?:)

What was this thread about????

Reviving an old thread :woot:

Did this go anywhere? For me regardless of how effective it is, as long as its not worse than not having a vent at all I really a functional vent.

So does the realwheels hood vent comes vented?

The RealWheels hood overlays are ridged with open spaces between the ridges. It still lays on the hood, so to vent heat you'd still need to cut a hole through the hood and then put the overlay over it. A screen would be preferred between them, maybe even with a sliding cover to protect against excessive water when needed.

I still want to do this mod, just haven't had time to look up a suitable screen and do the cutting. It would look like this.

This is one of my next projects as soon as I get back. With the V8 it's nearly indispensable.

I feel that the link at least gives a concept or different method to accomplish a certain goal the OP sought. As far as integrating it into the H3 hood I'd have to do some mock ups and try to figure out something.

I did something similar on my TJ, only I covered the holes with a vent from an HZJ70. I hate to see holes just sitting there. The OPs idea for the H3 is by far my favorite. It keeps the original look and actually makes a part that was only for looks functional. No unnatural hack jobs.

I would be in on a group buy. Since I acquired my H3 I have been wanting to do something with the hood. Not because I have overheating issues but because I can't stand 'fake' and am not a real big fan of 'plastic' in this particular context. I have completely disregarded the recall because I have had every intention of getting rid of the fake plastic louver when I found a viable alternative and didn't want to un-glue it. I have been kicking this and other 'fake plastic louver delete' ideas around for 3 years now. I was actually about to take the one off my hood over to a guy who does some fabrication work and see if i could have a metal one with slits in it modeled after the stock one. All that to say... I'm really glad this thread has been revived!!! Somebody bite the bullet! Ill do it myself as soon as I can get my hands on the right louver.

Wanted to share this thread. Used to own a tj x and am still a jeep forums member.
This is the proven way to go with the inline six.

Chris

The Jeep XJ crowd create a cowl hood buy cutting two slices the leanth of the hood, then lifting the rear up.

I made a frame out of round bar and welded heavy metal screen across the opening to hold it up. Then they fill in the sides with sheet metal.

This type of scoop let's hot air out at low speeds and cold air in at high speeds. Seems to work very well and removes all heat issues on the XJ.

Not sure what something like this would look like on a H3, but it could be done...

I know bebe talked about her t-stat being stamped 190.... Is that the stock temp of t-stats on the I-5? Maybe try a 180?
