Of course they would make it appealing to the mall crawler crew, they have to. First, every off road vehicle is - more Wrangler Rubicons hit the mall and never go off road than ones that actually wheel. Second, we need the sales from the mall crawlers, there just isn't a large enough market otherwise. As bad of a "street queen" reputation the H2 got, if only actual wheelers bought them they wouldn't have made it past the first couple years - not enough sales.

Of course but a front and rear locker was not an option until 4 years after the 3 came out.

Have you driven the V6? It hauls butt. My '88 IROC only had 275HP from the factory. I have a friend with the new Camaro V6 and about $1000 worth of upgrades and he is making north of 400HP. That is more than a Z06 Vett from 10 years ago.

Exactly. The H3x was not designed for the wheeler. In fact, both the H2 and H3 had Adventure/off road models (although all H2s have a rear locker) while the majority sold do not have or need those extra features. You can even buy a 2wd Wrangler Unlimited. Back to GM, they have their Z71 "off road" package for trucks and SUVs - now it doesn't add a lot, but it's at least a nod toward those that may leave the pavement for a dirt road.

If GMC does get a real offroad designed vehicle I'd bet it follows the Hummer formula. Rugged looks, decent off road ability, good on road manners, and some kind of special package for the small minority who actually intend to wheel it. It's all about making money and what they think they can sell enough of, it's their business and they have to do things that way, it's not to be nice to us. Either way, if they come out with something very similar to the concept vehicle with the off road ability to match it's looks, I will buy one.

I'm not much on buying new vehicles. My first new car purchase was a '95 Formula. It was the first 6-spd Trans Am/Formula I ever saw and I had to have it. I had it for about a month before making them take it back because they wouldn't stick to the deal as written and tried to screw me over. The second one was a '97 Wrangler - I wanted the updated TJ and special ordered one as soon as they started accepting orders in '96. The third and last was a 2003 Vibe when they first came out, for the now ex-wife not for me. Depending on how you look at it, two of those might not even count so you could almost say the only new vehicle I ever bought was the newly redesigned TJ. Depending on if and what GMC comes out with, this could be my fourth (or second) run at buying a new vehicle.

It has to come with an offroad package that includes suspension, wheels, tires and front and rear lockers. Probably should add that they need to improve the air bag sensors also.

i used to have a v6... a 94 it was slow as balls. i bet the new ones are nearly as fast as my brother's 99 Z28.

The V6's from a decade ago were absolute wonders when compared to the typical V8's of the early 80's, HP and torque were pretty much equal to one another, todays new V6's are coming out of the box in the 300hp range and warranties are better than a decade ago so yeah a V8 in one of these bad boys would be great but a 6 sould do yhe job on road or off quite nicely.

I'm building a Fiat Spider (79 124) and putting a 2006 3.6L Camaro/Cadillac motor in it. They're a pretty amazing motor, 300 stock hp, 500 with twin turbos....

That's based on the Lamborghini military prototype, that then became the LM002.

The LM002 was based on the Cheetah. These both were the inspiration for the HMMWV.

I wonder what the contract terms are with AM General if Hummer reverts back in 2015/16 or if GM has a right to renew it and keep it under the GMC family. Ie. if it will still be called a Hummer...
