check plugs first then if you still pull the code then try switching around coil packs and see if the misfire goes to another cylinder.

I will I dropped it off at the dealership, time crunch and we get a discount. My company has all our trucks services there. So hopefully it is a plug/coil/injector. Does the 3.7l suffer as well from the head issue?

Man, that sucks. I'm going to PM you contact info for a guy up here. He's a good friend, very reasonable, and owns an H3. Not a shadetree mechanic either. He owns a bona fide repair shop.

Yea I probably will I can't go without my DD very long. Does anyone know if this a true fix or could it happen again? Not a fan of fixing something with a known defective part

For the convenience of having it done in one day closer to home, I'd just do it for $1000. I think that's a fair price.

To have a dealer do it for what is involved $1000 sounds good comparatively speaking and you will have a warranty. They have probably done it before which always saves some labor.
However it just does not seem right that this has occurred in this model engine this many times why it is not a warranty issue at any mileage since it seems to be a manufacturing problem. GM seems to me to be dodging the bullet by only handling some of the claims and not admitting the problem is more wide spread. When I had my 06 the dealer of choice was apologetic and I got mine for free. The dealer I bought it from wanted around $2400 and I filled a claim with GM and they sent me to this GMC dealer??

If you think GM is the only manufacture doing this, think again! Ford is as bad with their diesels. We have some that go out of warranty by about 4K and Ford says TOUGH. Chrysler is even worse. Want to get into Canon cameras (Never had a nikon fail), how about Hamilton Beach (just replaced a 1.5 year old toaster oven that stopped working), how about cell phones, I could go on and on and on. Not sure if there is anything that has a lifetime guarantee. So, at what mileage should the warranty expire? 100K, 200K, 1000K? Just curious.

As for the head problem. The major head problem we are all aware of was only on the early 3.5L engine. However, as with anything man-made, they can fail. And eventually, they will all fail; the difference being the mileage they fail at.

I had mine replaced just before moab last year with between 85-88k miles on it (I gotta go back and check records for exact mileage) but havent had a problem since and am at 101k miles now.

I agree with f5. Even though this is happening to Matt, who is great guy and it sucks this happened to him, the warranty is 50K miles. It's not as though GM just suddenly came up with this on a whim yesterday. I deal with people who do this all the time in the shop here. Someone will buy something with a very clear 1 year warranty and then come back 5 years later (no exaggeration-- I have had this happen multiple times) when it breaks and get mad because I won't replace it. This comment isn't directed at any individual, but I have seen it come up multiple times.

MK...If all else fails, limp it down here and we can swap it our damn selves! Bring a new head, top-end gasket kit, head-bolts, coolant, and beer.

I don't think GM is the only ones with issues, be careful I thought you were defending them, lol
I meant because of the same issue recurring so many times not the rarity of some issue with heads in general, which with higher mileage can occur. I realize the terms of a warranty, duh but in the case of so many I felt like for this issue a reasonable, (whatever that is) extension for the exact some problem should be addressed. If this was a supplier issue with bad valve guides or a hardening problem, better quality control should have or should be implemented.
You know me enough to know I realize **** happens with engines, I have rebuilt various types. I think this has been publicized enough that it seems to be more than an anomaly. I do however see cases where GM has stepped up to help but "some" dealers seem to be the ones wanting to gouge in "some" cases. (in my case at least two instances) Like my locker and head repairs that once GM was involved got it solved, at another dealer on their recommendation.
And yes I know other manufactures have issues, and about the Ford diesels, that's why I have a Cummins.
But to Ford's credit, I know some they bought back.

Don't get me wrong, in the case of the early 2005 engines (mfgr in 2005 in 2006 vehicles); GM should have done a recall or at least added an extension like they did for the colorado/canyons.

Glad you got a $1000 fix; that's not bad. I was "lucky" enough for mine to fail with about 1500 miles left on the warranty (and five months, time-wise)

Should have by end of business today. From the amount of work he is doing I don't feel to bad about the price as long as it feels like a new engine when i get her back
