Transmission fluid level question...

So a couple of weeks ago my transmission cooler line poped out of the radiator and lost some transmission fluid . I topped it off and drove it around a little bit and kept topping it off 'til it was full and wasnt taking any more. About a week later I checked the dipstick cold (it does have a cold line) and it said I was WAY full. So I took it for a drive and pulled over and checked it warm with the engine running and the fluid was at the VERY bottom of the dipstick (under cold). I have checked it a few times, hot and cold, and I keep getting the same results, full on cold, low on hot. I've put probably a couple hundred miles on it since then and it drives fine now. I dont know, Ill keep an eye on it and see what happens.

I want to know if any of you have had a similar problem or any ideas to whats causing this. Any help/ideas is greatly apreciated, thanks in advance :)

BTW, this is the 3.7L i5 4speed.

There is a specific procedure to check the level mentioned in the manual.

1. Cold oil level isnt accurate
2. You need to drive 20 miles for the trans oil to be considered good for hot level check

Once your temps are hot. You need to park the truck, cycle th shift lever while the truck is running between P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1 and back to D. Keep it in running in D and have somone check the trans oil level.

For safety's sake, you can leave it in Park to check the ATF but the fluid must be warm and the engine must be running. The "best" procedure is to have it in D but having it in Park is acceptable.

Yes what ever you do don't put it in drive and get out to then check the level. Sounds crazy hey? Happens more then ya know. Haha!

I think we have a possible lawsuit opportunity against GM!
Any lawyers here let us know if we can play our cards right???

No you read it wrong. It says check in DRIVE with foot on gas. Person checking fluid must hold on to front bars. :gaah:
But doesn't the wind blow the fluid off the dipstick with this method? Probably need a four mile stretch of open road, at a minimum
