On second thought the roll cage might be a good idea if you keep going! lol
Always interesting to see your mods.

Thanks, I have had that thought for quite sometime now. I think I would head down to JC fab (now known as high ground 4x4) and have them do it.

I meant it made the INSIDE useless. And I was talkin about us normal weekend wheeler type guys. Those photos you posted look nothing like the GM H3 I saw. Here's the one I saw in person...

View attachment 7224

I saw this at Indy 3 or 4 years ago, and it had a Corvette motor, widened fenders, scooped hood, 20" wheels, and a Rhino-lined interior. All of the interior was gone...just two racing seats and a roll bar. In the back it had shock hoops tied to the roll cage, with a spare tire that took up the entire area. No doubt a fuel tank was in there as well...but it wasn't anything like the one in your photos. Also, it did not have the external spare shown in your photos, and I cannot remember if it even had an exterior spare. I'm sure there were many of these H3's built...and this one was probably the "poser" rig for GM's booth at events and such. I heard it run, and it sounded very hairy.

Also...it was pretty darn clean. Too clean to be a full-competition rig.

Ok I gottcha on the useless rear area but I'm not sure about this part.
"And I was talkin about us normal weekend wheeler type guys." Your rig is not normal anymore! lol
I never have been normal.................

No cantilever for now...I met with mayhem metal works today and they will be going over my welds and reinforcing them as necessary. While my spring hanger mounts and spring perch welds held up fine I feel it will add some extra confidence if a welder of 15+ years of experience makes sure they are good especially seeing my experience is about 1 year.

The price will be still be much cheaper with just being reinforced vs. having them doing the whole project for me. I learned a lot and had fun. I know I wanted to do the whole thing by myself but I think it's best to take credit for doing the project myself but have the added safety of a professional going over things. I'd rather hurt my pride a bit then myself. Lol

Also, can a person with a stock rear height H3 tell me the distance between the bottom of the bumpstop to the bumpstop plate?

It's about 1 1/2 inch on my Alpha with only 1 tool bag in the rear. I don't have it loaded with spares and trail tools. I have a 285 on the spare rack and that over the spare rack I run so there could be some variables.

Ill bump this as I want to go through very thorough testing before anyone else makes the jump. I know bebe has tested hers all over the rubicon, fordyce and moab but I might as well throw in some more opinions as well.

Today was another H4O run at 2N17X. This has lots of steep climbs and off camber sections which is a bit different then the last test, which rockcrawling in a canyon. I was very impressed with the stability of the H3. I know its taller and that was a concern but this one obstacle added some confidence in the stability area.

This was me stock with a t bar crank. I tackled the same off camber obstacle with ease.

Another obstacle was subman hill. To date we still have not been able to get an H3 up this obstacle. Most of the issues were due to clearance. I attempted it and had plenty of clearance but had to climb two loose dirt ledges and couldnt get my tires to grip. Even though I backed down and didnt make it I was very pleased. Maybe a 4:1 would help...

The last obstacle was a long hill climb, very loose rocks and a steep in a narrow section. there was a big rock I couldnt put my tire over and would of been an instant hang up with the spring under but with it spring over I didnt have issues hanging up.

Now that I have done some testing on rocks and hill climbs I really want to push it on the next test. I would want to run john bull and attempt to run it without getting strapped. Not sure if we ever had an H3 go through without a strap. I also want to do some snow wheeling tests too.

Overall I am extremely happy with it and will continue to post up reviews of different scenarios and try to show everyone this rancho/spring over can be a proven setup.

Awesome!!! One day I will have the COURRRRRage to do such a mod. And I used to fabricate/weld on experimental spaceships and aircraft... Until then, I just sit on the sidelines and admire.

It's builds like this that give us mere mortals the encouragement to aim high. Congrats on the accomplishments... It looks like everything is working together nicely.

Finally found this thread! I can't wait to do my spring over now. The only question I have is what are all of the misc pieces that you need to complete this. Brake lines? Something with the drive shaft? I already have all of the actual parts, i'm just worried about the hidden costs.

Just go for it.

Longer brake lines can be made by any hydraulic shop. I can get them for you if need be. Depending on how much your wheelbase changes...you might want to lengthen your driveshaft. Its not super critical because the H3 has a very long slip yoke from the factory. I lengthened mine because I moved my axle rearward after the SOA (it was no longer centered in the wheel opening). I was also worried that the slip yoke might be fluttering at speed, and thus wear-out the output bushing in the t-case. No proof of this...but I lengthened the driveshaft about an inch or so just to be safe. This kept the yoke in its original location.

I would go for it, but now i may have to buy new hubassemblys in order to finish the rancho
