Rotm?

Im gonna chime in on this, since it was obviously a bone of contention on the other forum. I just as soon NOT see any type of forum-sponsored contest, since you are always going to piss someone off and have them cry foul. OTOH, IF it is decided to go forward with a Featured Rigs program, here's my suggestions:

First off, I like the idea of it NOT being a competition. There should be no prizes of any kind awarded by the forum. OTOH, prizes/giveaways by sponsors would be up to them, just like it is on Pirate.

Second, even a "non-competitive" featured truck event will still end up being competitive, so it needs to be open and transparent. I assume Alex has enabled polls, right? In that case, we could do a three-week nomination process, where the top five rigs are chosen as contenders. Then, the final week would be a poll, where members vote for their favorite truck. The poll would be a "visible" poll that would show the names of the members next to the rig they voted for. That should keep the process transparent and minimize the possibility of "voter irregularity". I personally dont think this will be an issue with the current crowd on here.....

Finally, "winners" are not eligible to be contestants again for 12 months. This helps to keep it fresh.

Anyway, that's my loose change on the subject. Since I don't own a Hummer, I consider myself fairly impartial. Likewise, because I am not a Hummer owner, perhaps I should also exclude myself from nominating rigs or casting votes.

I like the suggestions people have. I would do it a monthly thing though. One so it doesn't get old fast, and second so the staff doesn't have to go crazy that often. Would there be a Featured Truck of the Year? If the old ROTM returned, I wouldn't participate again. Not because I didn't enjoy it, just because it would basically be a rehash. I don't get much of a chance to wheel or do mods on my truck. I would enjoy watching others participate.

Ahh, well, I never participated in ROTM :D Like I said, I still think it would be better to have no forum-sponsored contests. Sooner or later someone is going to get butthurt and start pointing fingers. I think it is best to avoid the situation altogether...

I feel sorry for Recon. At least I got the banner for a month, he didn't even get that.... sux.

I can always make my own banner and put it in my sig as the last ROTM winner. ;) The best part about it was the fun I had participating. Thanks to it, I now have much better material for a much better build thread.

If I was still Staff you'd be the flagship to disply my idea. Taking the way you documented everything in more of an article type way and molding it into the Premier Feature. (You'd need a Garage though lol) Would make up for the lack of the ROTM on the previous run. With the document of the build and more importantly, it's purpose, this choice is all but solid.

I think ROTM is a good idea, but may be 3 different groups H1, H2, H3? each month. In my opinion different trucks shouldn't compete in "same class".

Originally I believe you got a shirt and sticker?! correct me if I'm wrong. After a while shirts were not available so that ended.

Nothing yet. We're concentrating on getting H4O going strong but I promise something fun will be in the works in the next month or two.

I was never a fan of the ROTM. Because I was staff I never participated because I felt that staff shouldn't be in competition with the members and that ROTM was for the members. I like the featured truck of the month( have suggested it several times in the past ) because it allows for the use of much more criteria, doesn't pit members against each other, and doesn't require a month of frenzied activity and effort. I agree with many of the comments in this thread. Some of the most used trucks on the forum are not heavily modded but the members wheel them extensively. I think those owners/ trucks deserve a little time in the spotlight also. Whichever way the forum members prefer is ok by me.

I agree. It caused contention among contestants, people voted for the person more than the truck (and that included me, I remember voting one month for the person who actually owned the vehicle and actually worked for the money to modify, not the vehicles that were in the contest owned by their Daddy or Daddy forked over the money for the kid to mod), and no matter how it is run, someone who does not win will start to think it was fixed and get peed off.

But not my decision, and something that I can easily ignore. Just my thoughts....

It's crazy to me that anyone gets there feelings hurt if they lose rotm it's not like it'd the end of the world it's just a bragging tights competition. It doesn't meant anybodys rig is better than the others its just what people vote for. I don't I guess adults are still stuck in junior high and high school sometimes. My vote is strap on a pair if you lose rotm if it comes back and get over it. Personally I think it should just be featured rig In each class 12&3 Since everyone pretty much just votes for their pals.

See here lies one of the main problems with ROTM. It's not even about the "ride" for some people. And that sucks because that's what it's supposed to be about. And even if it isn't a popularity contest that month... some people will think that it is.

ROTM is fun and all but so many people think so many different things. It's hard to run a competition like that without people feeling hurt or cheated. And we're just not about that here.

I like the idea of a staff picked feature truck, just work your way through the garage. Maybe do one model each month or even 1 of each model every month if there's enough.

That is the way I am leaning also.

Great minds think alike. Too much drama arises with the ROTM. It's a new site, time to try something different which I think would be just as cool. If a member wanted bragging rights, they could make their little quote under their user name say "Oct. 11 Centerfold" or whatever.

When I was in ROTM, I got my butt handed to me at the end of the month. It was probably one of the best ROTM in recent years. It got me motivated to do some things I wanted to do to truck. I fought up until the last day. It gave me a great chance to show off what I have done with my truck. And enjoyed it. But, from what I saw, alot of people voted for a specific person because they knew them. Was I butt hurt over it? Not at all. I still enjoyed showing off my truck, which I do take pride in. I tend to think I have built it to wheel it and nothing more. Showing it off was a plus. But honestly the last few months we had ROTM, it was kind of a joke. You had some people completely into it and others that would just disappear when the votes started coming in. What fun is that? Just my $.02 on it.

I like the idea of a featured truck each month as chosen by the staff. Perhaps Chapter Presidents, admins, mods, so on and so forth can be the voters. ROTM was fun, but our community is too small to support a healthy ROTM with newcomers each month.
