Need some help choosing tires

My stock tires need to be replaced ASAP, I need some help choosing new tires. The car will be on-road for 90% of the time. Looking for some tires that will last atleast 50K miles, I thought the stock tires lasting only 35K miles is garbage, thats 2 years of driving for me. I also can't decided on whether stay at 265 or to go up to 285. To be honest I'm a little nervous of the mpg decreasing by going to the 285(yes I know its a hummer, I should expect low mpgs) Its just that the ARB bumper has already dropped me for 16mpg to 15mpg. Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. Anyone have experience will the Nitto Mud Grappler

I saw no MPG loss going from a 265/75R16 to a 285/75R16. I saw a 1/2 MPG loss going to a 305/70R16. Personally I would look into 285/75R16's or 305/70R16's. Nitto Mud Grapplers are great tires and have decent street manor, minus the noise. Don't expect anywhere near 50k out of them though, about half that. If you want something that you will get 50K out of and you spend 90% of the on the street, I would suggest looking into an AT.

I second what 08solar said. The BFG's definitely last a long time and you should get 50K out of them if you take care of them, including rotating them periodically.

Note that if you do go up in size you need to make adjustments in calculating your mpg as your speedo will be off, so the odometer will not accurately show the number of miles driven. Mine's off by about 4.5%.

I'll second the BFG A/T. I ran the OE ones on my H2 for about a year, and was very impressed with them. They are great in everything but deep snow and mud. If I ever am going to run a non-M/T tire that one would be high in the running. They are awesome on snowy roads.

Take a look at the duratracs in 305, thats what I have and I have no complaints at all, little to no road noise, and they handle great in mud, snow, and rocks. I have a about 10k on them so far and they still look brand new

I have Duratracs on the H3 and on my Sport Trac. Awesome tires. I have close to 36,000 on the ones on the Sport Trac, and I would say they still have about 70 % of their tread left. Aggressive but not noisy. Look at my photo's. Mine are 265,75,16 and I have VTEC wheels which push em out about 1/4 inch on each side. I think they are the perfect size for me.. Mine is only off road maybe 5% tops. Highway miles mostly.

I'm running Duratrac 315s and so far I like them. I've also run BFG ATs and MTs in the past on various Jeeps. If I were in the OPs situation, I'd probably go with BFG ATs for the long tread life. I don't know what tread life ratings are off the top of my head and I've only had Duratracs for a couple weeks now, but the BFG ATs I had on my Jeeps seemed to last forever... A decent enough tire for the 90% on-road driving, but still a good AT for that 10% of time offroad. Another option I have no experience with but might be worth checking out is the General Grabber AT2 - appears to be very similar to the BFG ATs in both appearance and ratings.

Either way - go with 285s.

I went from 265's to 285's. My mph is off .5 at 70 - comparing GPS to the speedo. I have over 30,000 miles on my Duratracs and have at least half tread left. 40,000 miles easily and 50,000 if I wasn't so tempted to go bigger.

edit to add: rotate every 5000 miles religiously. Off road 2x per year - Grayling and Drummond, with an occassional Sliver lake thrown in (dunes).

I've got at least 20,000 on my 35" KM2's and they have plenty of life left. And I never rotate them.

I have 33" cooper st maxx tired and they are good ive had them for about 10000 miles now and they barely show it , they honestly still look new , and i do 98 % highway driving and there is barely any noise. And they look pretty aggresive

Goodyear wrangler MTRs with the kevlar sidewall FTW. I love em. Quite on the road and they kick butt in the mud. Don't think they'll last you 50K, most mud tires won't. Might want to look at a A/T for that. The nitto trail grapplers get good tread life. Not too sure aboutt he mud grapplers though.

I was talking o the guys at the tire store and they service the BLM trucks out here in nevada. (powerwagons and rubicons). The BLM were going through BFG mt like crazy and they switched to MTR's and have been having great luck with them. we have a ton of shale and lose poky rocks here though.

In my experience - BFG ATs are decent and last a long time, BFG MTs suck in ice and packed snow, are loud, and wear out quickly. In short BFG ATs are decent but I did not like my BFG MTs.

BFG A/T's are definitely going to be a better tire for New Jersey than any MT tire. Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 is a really good tire, but the soft compound wears fast.

I can't speak for milder climates, but out here in AZ my experience is that off-road (and performance) tires are pretty much done after 2-3 years of use, regardless of tread wear. The compound gets hard, and traction off-road and in bad weather goes into the crapper. Tires that are routinely aired down suffer carcass wear and sidewall cracking as the compound hardens and the cords fatigue. All in all, unless your rig is strictly a pavement pounder and you can tolerate crappy traction as tires harden OR the vehicle is garaged and not driven much, you should plan on replacing them every 2-3 years anyway.

I don't know about others, but the original 33 for the H3, the Bridgestone Duelers (not Revo's) are back out on the market. Just checked. I have 2 new one's on the miniHummie, I'm Keeping the brand as long as I can. Been running my OEM's from the BebeMonster on the Land Cruiser since 2007.

That is a great tire - rotated often, 50K easy.

I agree with with Bebe, the Duelers were great tires. Running the Kevlar MTRs now but the Duelers were pretty decent at everything.

I have the duratracs and like them. They ride pretty well but am looking at the KM2's for better off road performance

I've driven on both of those. and like the duelers better.
IMO The T/A give a harsher ride, don't do well in snow, and after one offroad trip to Moab they started throwing chunks of rubber. I really was unipressed with the T/A on my H3.

The Revo is a great all around tire. I've taken them to Moab several times. And they do great. But They've changed the rubber compound on the revo2's and went to a softer rubber. My last offroad trip they did start through chunks of rubber for a couple of day. But it stopped after a few miles and the tires have held up well since. Since I've taken several long trips and haven't had anymore problems. Overall I do like the revo.

Another tire you may want to consider is the Firestone destination. I don't have personal experience with them. But they are my next tire I think.
