the problem is only Mike S. can see if it's really "totalled". I hope it all goes well
Even if insurance calls it "totalled" they can pay what they claim to be the value adjusted by whatever wacky percentage they use to give you a cash buyout on it. We did that with one of our cars that had right fender, hood and grill damage; we were able to take the insurance companies top offer for the totalled car and have it fixed gooder than new.

He launched it off of a creek bank and was going fast enough that it landed on the right rear tire. The rear tire went all the way to the top of the fender.
So he was going fat enough that the front end stayed up in the air and landed it at that right angle.
Hell of a hit she took and plenty of visible damage and quite sure of the hidden issues to be found when tearing into her.
I'd shoot for a total and a buy back!
If it comes down to towing out of pocket my dad and I both have AAA Premier. So worst case is he has it towed to somewhere in LA(one free 200 mile tow) and then I get it towed from there to Tustin. And I just realized I put 6 hours away is my dad. He's only about 4 away.As far as frame damage. I think there would be more since it only landed on one wheel/tire instead of both. So the force got distibuted in about half the area it could have. And maybe now my dad can get 12K frame rails and those goodiesmight be worth a AAA flatbed to Tustin even if it's out of pocket. Probably tweaked the framerails and really messed up the crossmembers. Maybe the fact that it didn't nose-dive will lessen the damage? Who knows?

Sincerely hope the guy get caught, and that closer inspection doesn't reveal any severe damage... To the truck that is, I hope the guy that stole it ends up with as much severe damage as possible.

I will rest much better once it is in his hands because we all know he is one of the best, I usually do most of the work on the truck myself primarily so that if something breaks on the trail I will at least have a chance of getting my sorry behind out ... because lets face it ... if a tow truck can get where we off road we really don't need an H1!
My expectation is it will need quite a bit of suspension work, Damon said that the Right Rear just about everything will need to be gone through if not replaced. I was looking at the pictures and it looks like the upper A-arm hit the body right where the ball joint is. Now that is a lot of movement!
The fuel tank might have water in it because some say that it landed in a few feet of water and with the fuel filler tube being knocked down below the hub there is a good chance of a breach.
As of 530pm they still haven't caught the tweeker.
So it will be interesting to see what Mike thinks.
