I have always wished the h3 had a Diesel engine. Has anyone heard of one being done?

Well that article just completely destroyed any dreams of making mine a diesel unless I strike it rich one day :-( that was a lot of modifications. Anyone know how hard it is to put lockers on mine? I'm at work and nothing to do.

Lockers aren't too bad. I did my locker install wiring is easy and better IMO so you can run them in 4hi

I don't think all of the mods they did were required to do the swap. but probably good since the Duramax makes so much torque at low RPM. even the H1 Alpha's programming is detuned to help with Transfer Case longevity.

Non-similar motor swaps have always required a bit of fab and if you're not doing it yourself it does get expensive quick.

Yea I can see that being a very pricy job unless I got the tools time and some better skills. It would be great to have a Diesel engine though. So where did you get your lockers from?

Can someone with hood handles measure the width height and length of them? I am gonna try to get a set macbined out from my uncle instead of paying so much for the metal ones. How do they attach? Thanks for the help!

i was thinking the same thing, probably less modifications and get to keep the heavy suspension from the truck and more parts to chose from for repairs in the future!

Were were just about to get a Factory Diesel for the H3 before GM went broke.

http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story2/3E68A6FADA9E4326CA2572BF000A1339

It was a VM Motori 2.9l V6 Turbo that GM had been working on for some time.

http://www.vmmotori.it/en/03/00/dettaglio.jsp?id=97

It was the same Diesel that was going into the CTS Cadillac & other GM Models

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f15/gm-develops-v6-diesel-engine-vm-motori-cadillac-cts-47249/

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1027751_cadillacs-550nm-v6-diesel-powerhouse

If it gets released in the Cadillac I would expect a lot of the hard conversion bits would be solved (Looms, Mounts, Sensors, etc.) so putting one in the H3 may be easier but it would still be a lot harder than ticking the dealer option on a new model.

This other article also hints at a 4.5l Duramax Turbo Diesel (but only for GMC & Hummer)

sometimes it makes me so mad that hummer went out of business!! the h4 would have been an amazing vehicle i believe. and coming out with a diesel option would have the great for offroading since there are no sparkplugs too. i dont know why its so hard to get a diesel in the states outside of a heavy duty truck or a vw!!!!

Goes in the place of spare. Haven't installed it yet since I have to build spare mount inside of tuck.

These were made by a guy called Andy that worked at East Coast Gear Supply. He no longer works there. He now works at Tarheel 4x4. You could either ask ECGS if they are willing to make more, or see if Andy, at his new job, can make them.
