Hey, so this popped into my mind, why dont we get an official H4O youtube channel going? Where all the vids from our trail runs can be found?

This is actually something I had been working on, and is a great idea. Youtube is a powerful advertising tool for our club. I have preemptively created a Gmail email address that is ready to use for H4O to create a Youtube account. The only problem is that it would require a communal password that we can all use in order to log in and upload our own Hummer videos, which I do not think is in the best interest of the club.

A communal account that is accessible by all poses a few problems in my mind -- A) I would want the consistency of videos uploaded to be of equal quality (i.e. no blurry 30-second-long cell phone videos of your truck in your backyard, etc); B) I would want all videos uploaded to have proper descriptions and references to H4O while using proper grammar (i.e. avoiding a video with a description like "i uploaded this vid to youtube for u all to c of us hummers doing kewl hummer offroad stuff", etc.) in order to professionally represent the club; C) I would not want the password to get into the wrong hands. Since we would all need to use a common log-in and password, the wrong person getting ahold of the password could mean bad news for the club.

I would be more than happy to run a Youtube page, and have been for some time -- I feel that falls under the duties of Social Media Director. The only thing that is keeping me from doing so is an easy way for somebody else to email/give me access to a .mp4/other video file so that I can upload it to Youtube.

Unless the "getting files to me" conundrum is solved, I believe it would be best of all interested parties to upload their own videos to their personal accounts and mention H4O.com in the description. So, if somebody knows how to easily/effeciently email me video files, I would be more than happy to manage a Youtube account for H4O.

These are all, of course, personal opinions. I'm open to suggestions, questions, and Moderator intervention.

Yea i think getting all the files to hans for upload is probably the best way to go.
As for file sharing methods, drop box is one option, mega upload is another, but i think the feds shut that down, so im not really sure how to transfer large files short of physically mailing them haha

All good points made here...
I have 2 thoughts that may work:
First thought is that we have certain members in each area have the duties of making videos and only a select few have the password. For example, Serge has done a great job on the videos for so cal so if you tell him what you want represented (like H4O representation) he can include that in his video and upload the "highlight" videos he makes. Then have someone whos qualified for each region.

I like this idea but the con I see is that some may not want to give their videos away and have it put on someone elses account.

Another thought is that anyone who wants a video up goes through you and you can upload the file, now if there are others that have made nice H4O videos in the past instead go going back and changing all them to meet certain representation requirements you can go ahead and put them on your favorites. Those videos will still show up and be available for viewing when someone visits the H4O youtube page.

I been thinking about posting some of mine now that I built this new box that will actually run the HD files. I was just going to start "Hunner's Video Theater" in whatever thread seems to be best.
What about one of the sites like Photobucket. I keep my stuff private but of course share it on the forum.
Videos can be uploaded to that, then just share the link to the video in a separate folder.
Or is the idea to Youtube to share it to the world.

Great stuff, everyone. Laguna, that site could definitely be a useful tool.

Chris, that idea isn't half bad at all. I suppose even giving Chapter Presidents Youtube access could be possible. The only reason that I am afraid to give access to multiple parties is more or less based on my belief that sometimes "less is more". Consistency is very important to me/for professionally representing our club.

As for giving credit to the person who created the video, I have no problem listing names, links to personal Youtube channels, and that sort of thing in the video subscription for each video uploaded to the H4O account.

Keep the thoughts coming, all! :)

One way of easily getting the large files to a central administrator is for the user to first post the video to YouTube using their own personal account. Next, the user would notify the administrator of the URL of the YouTube video. The admin could then go to convert files.com and paste in the URL and choose download. The video is then converted in a matter of seconds or minutes and available for download at which time the admin cold re-upload it under the H4O account. The admin could then have full control over the H4O account without a password floating around getting into the wrong hands.

Yea what he said, was what I was trying to say. I just did not know Youtube had a private account selection. I'm trying to get caught up. I was thinking any site you can post them to would work but keeping it all in the same codec if they are different would I guess be best. Then give access to the moderator.
That is where I ran into trouble before with two conflicting codecs between Sony and other software.
I guess I need to do some editing anyway.

I remember having codec conflicts with Sony software before as well. I assume you were talking about playback issues if it was the same as me. If you've never used it, try VLAN (videolan.org). It's a great player that eliminated a lot of my issues.

I was using the software that came with my camera. Picture Motion Browser Finally found out it does not play well with others. Duh Windows media player was of course already on the computer. Anyway my old AMD processor just did not like HD video.
The i5-3.4 ghz 16 gig ram I'm running now is smokin. Of course it's about 7 years newer technology and I have not tried to even install the PMB again.
Of course that meant new mobo and memory.
This was the editing suite I built back around 1995 and was mostly analog but hybrid with some computer interface. I retired before going full digital. Tape, remember tape?:shifty:
I guess I'm ready to get back in this game. 29-30 still frames a second is a bit weird, who wooduthunkit.

For selecting videos to put on, we could have a "H4O YouTube Submissions" room. There members could post their video they want to submit in a poll thread. Then we vote for a specified period of time on whether to put it on the channel or not. That way we would all have a say in our "public face".

To keep it clean and simple, and maybe save any miffed feelings, we could make a rule that you vote only, no comments or replies. Or just post a reply of "Voted" or something.

I would highly recommend allowing all submissions until and unless there's a problem. I totally understand the sentiment, but the most important thing at first is probably getting enough content to be interesting.

I love the idea, I just don't see it working. It has the "potential" to hurt some peoples "feelings." LOL!
