Was I wrong in my actions?

Yesterday I was cruising around town, enjoying the weather, listening to music, and laughing at jeeps. I turned onto a 2 lane road and I was doing my thing when a little Camry pulled out from the neighborhood golf course. Instead of moving to the right side of the road, he was in my lane heading towards my H2, which I was doing about 52 mph in. He was in my lane for a few seconds before swerving back into his lane at the very last second. Now my question is, was it wrong of me to not even brake and only cruise toward him, I didn't try to slow down, nor did I honk, nor did I swerve, I merely let of the gas and let whatever happen, happen.

Also, do you think he was trying to play chicken, cause he waited literally to the last second before getting back into his lane.

Dangerous because the driver may have been distracted... half the time people are off in la-la land because they are distracted for x reasion... be it they are high as a kite, drunk, futzing with the radio, on the phone, posting to twitter, etc.

Lol no if they hit you they pay... That's how my mindset is when similar situations happen to me

I always try to avoid contact regardless of the fact that I would win most encounters. Most people are oblivious to what is happening in those situations. Nine times out of ten it is the phone, radio, kids, etc. I like my vehicles and it isn't worth the possibility of me or my passengers getting hurt.

I would have to say YES. For reasons mentioned above. But even if the driver was a hummer hating jerk playing chicken, what if their were kids in the car. I just don't mess around in a vehicle. one of the reasons is that I work for a utility company as a journeyman lineman and we (E-crew) roll up to car accidents before or with first responders. Firemen won't go near the vehicles if there are power lines all over the ground. We(E-crews) choose to get in there and render aid while some of the crew works to de-energize the circuit. And after seeing the things I've seen, I just can't mess around like that. But that's just me. The kids are the hardest and also when family shows up while we are working. Making a point just isn't worth it.

Defensive driving should be your first thought. You should always anticipate the unexpected, you cannot predict what others drivers will do and your ability to react quickly will save your life one day.

Exactly what Big2dabank said! Rule #1, assume the worst, esp while driving. Sometimes people surprise you with what they do, for example people coming out into an intersection although you should have the Right of way. Avoiding a collision should be your first priority, even if you have a some what safe vehicle and you feel indestructible.

not much i could've done anyway, cause the distance he was to me and the speed i was going, the brakes wouldn't have done mcuh. plus it was either that or pull right into the giant oak trees on the right (no, there was no shoulder) or into the left lane and run into oncoming traffic.

Yes! Don'tcha know how hard it is to getting to be to get OEM parts for Hummers :D Their insurance company might pay for the repairs because they entered a roadway when it wasn't clear and safe for their actions to do so, but that doesn't mean you want to total out your H2 to prove that point.

On a side note, you say 52 mph, what was the posted speed limit? What were the weather conditions?

I had a friend who was in a similar situation, but it ended poorly for him.
on a highway going about 60mph on the way out to the lake on a beautiful summers day he had a distracted driver drift into his lane slowly..... he saw it from a distance out bu figured that by the time they got to him they would get back in their lane... all he did was let of the gas and coast... well up until the last second the vehicle stayed in his lane, so my friend choose to swerve into the lane that the other vehicle should have been in since there was no shoulder and the ditch along that stretch of highway is far too dangerous to purposely put a car into...

Just then the other driver looked up and saw he was in the wrong lane, swerved back into his lane...... all parties involved needed to be air lifted to the nearest hospital... they all made if, but my buddy has never, mentally, been the same.

In some states they may not be carrying insurance. bye bye, see ya later. Try and sue them when they've got nothing. :/

I would have killed a lady last week if i didnt drive defensively. It wouldn't have been my fault but id still have her life on my conscience. I was driving down the road and she pulled out of a wawa about 20 feet in front of me and slammed on brakes because she panicked. My brushgaurd would have hit her in the face and it wouldnt have been pretty but i went over into the oncoming lane and avoided it completely

Yeah, you never know when there might be kids in the car or what might happen. I always avoid the idiots so they can live to do something else stupid.

In my opinion, we all have a responsibility to try and avoid an accident, regardless of who might be at fault

I'm with LagunaH1, yesterday coming home, two lane road, 1000 meters, 60 - 65 mph, dumb ass on a Ford Focus passed a Dodge ram with 8 x 12 trailer, no passing lane with a slight curve, no shoulders on both sides of the road. Apparently, dick wad thought his car had enough power to overtake the Dodge and get back on the lane, well numb skull, miscalculate, had to avoid him, luckily, even though there were no shoulders, both sides of the road was open field, because If did not have the right of mind,m I would have hit him head on and send him hurling toward the Dodge, luckily, the Dodge driver had the mind to apply his brake and veered off to the open field on his side, if not the Dodge would have smacked him. After the c**t twat passed, myself and the Dodge driver got out to insure that there were no damages on our vehicles, we both crossed the street and asked each other if everyone was fine then we both shook our heads, and repeatedly called the Ford Focus driver a dumb ass and every other vile 4 letter words we could come up with.

Its just not worth it, even though I could probably came out of it unscratched, but it is just not worth my time, to go through the headache of dealing with the police, insurance, repair shop, body shop, etc, etc, it just isn't worth the time especially if you get in situation like that and with very little effort to exert, move out of the way. I will take moving out of the way, any time and hope the idiot driver, "numb nuts" learned some thing from it.
