I need a CV shaft and don't want to pay retail (about $450) for it. If anyone has a used one laying around that they would like to sell, please give me a price with shipping to Olyphant, PA 18447

Thank you
-Tom

Thanks, I picked one up from eBay but I'm still open to having a spare. Also, the eBay one may not get here until late next week. If I can get one quicker, I'll buy it.

The noise is really annoying when I'm on the highway. :)

Anybody know if there is a difference in strength or quality on shafts ? I just had my first boot go out, and had an Empi spare but curious if that one is the hot ticket. I am a solid axle guy, and replacing that cv axle seemed like a PITA. Would hate to do that in the dirt.

Rcv performance has stronger ones. Unfortunately the h3s are a pita. The h2s seem easier to swap out

We use EMPI axles all the time at work and never have issues. Granted they don't see the abuse ours do but they are a quality product and I would assume they are just as strong as the OEM ones. $75 is cheap insurance, so I wouldn't hesitate picking up one for a trail spare. Keep in mind you can purchase 4 EMPI shafts for the price of one from GM Parts Direct or 6 for the price of what a dealer charges.

I asked TheBroken for his opinion and this is what he sent me:
"They(EMPI) are the same and A1 and cardon. What they do is they have CV end A, B, C, D etc. and they have shaft A,B,C,D etc.. They just take measurements and make sure the splines match on the ends and then make a half shaft out of it. Some parts stores carry them.

If you go offroading a lot and your breaking half shafts I would buy them cheap ones. But if you don't off road a lot and you want the CV to last along time get OEM. It's hard to beat OEM parts. "

Brodie used to sell new OEM factory ones for $185.00

Used to... :-(

In a sense, I agree with Brodie. However, it sounds like he is saying the non-OEM shafts will break easier when off-roading, therefore, to keep from changing them I would go with OEM. I have over 40K and never took out a shaft, yet. I do carry an extra one in the back. I also believe if you are breaking a 'lot' of shafts off-road, there may be another underlying problem.:)

If you really want the OEM H3 shaft, I have one that I bought from Brodie. I'm not going to lose money on it, but if you want it you can have it for the $185 + shipping. Since it's a spare, I'm content with buying an EPMI to replace it. PM me if interested.

There is a difference between EMPI and A1 Cardone. EMPI shafts are a completely new shaft and A1 Cardone are a reman/rebuilt unit. I would go with EMPI over A1 Cardone any day. Not to mention with the carnage ours see, good luck getting you core money back on the reman.

Cardone makes their own shafts that they design. Unlike most remans which just replace the worn parts Cardone replaces all wearable parts if it's worn out or not. If you ever take one apart you will find that they make the cages much tighter than the OEM's and the bearing races are polished. They advertise reman because they have to but virtually they are a new, redesigned. The advantage to this is you know that the measurements are exact where companies that make an entirely new part typically only have a handful of parts that they puzzle together to get the part that's needed. For example you can take a OEM CV end off a halfshaft and put it onto a reman halfshaft but you might not be able to put a OEM CV end on the end of a new shaft like a EMPI because the end of the middle part of the half shaft may not be the same spline.

Unfortunately them days are over. I won't work them kind of deals out anymore. Last time I did that I had a few people were giving me **** because they found some non OEM shafts for 15$ less. I know most people appreciated what I was doing but a few bad eggs stink up the house.

I appreciated it even if I have never had to use it. I know if it does break in the middle of BFE, I will eventually get out.

My rule of thumb:
-Go with OEM on H3 as they are not the easiest to swap out
-Go with aftermarket on H2 as they are really easy to swap out.
