Wake Up GM!!!

Obviously it's now SFW I guess...
I’m going off on a good ol' rant and while my piece is not clean nor too coherent, it's straight from the heart. Here we go...:corn:

The off-roading industry is taking off right now and the iconic Hummer isn't around to be leading the trails with the Wrangler. The main choices buyers have to choose from is a Jeep, a WAY over rated Ford pick up that houses a cute 3.5L V6 with EcoBoost..... really? That's like the power wheels I'd buy my kid so they can pretend they're driving a real truck. There isn't a single thing better for our American trails, than some gas guzzling American muscle. And what is the most notorious gas guzzling American muscle lineup? Hummers.

Sales for the small and unexciting off-road lineup are booming. The Jeep Wrangler sales have sky-rocketed by a 156.5% increase between 2005 and 2015 (in the U.S. alone) . Between 2013 and 2015 sales of the Wrangler blew up by an increase of 81,203 units. How is it that this piece of sh*t daily driver can make these kind of sales while managing to get worse f*ckin gas mileage stock than a 2009 H3 with the V8?! I thought the whole reason the Hummers were hated was their gas mileage? Yet somehow these f*cking turds that are rolling off the assembly line getting worse MPG than I do. Let us not forget how uncomfortable the ride is, seriously it’s stiffer than my morning wood. Only I’m not as sh*ty of a ride :). What I will give to the Jeeper community is that they have a very customizable vehicle thanks to all the companies that have produced for this niche and thrive because of us, a great mutual relationship. Overall opinion though?

F*ck the Jeep Wrangler.

Moving on to the Ford…..*sigh* The team of eunuchs who put together this flaming cum-dumpster need to get some serious f*cking help. The Raptor started of with good ideas and the ability to move onto great places. Starting off as a baja vehicle with Gen. 1 and over the course of that generation segueing into a more all encompassing off-road vehicle. But all of a f**king sudden Ford has to change up everything with the next-gen Raptor. The mongo’s down at Ford decide to throw in a “super bad ass twin turbo EcoBoost V6”. Great vehicle if you like to race a group of ricers down back roads while your wife back home is giving some dude a glass bottom boat. Seriously, great choice in vehicles you cuck. However when it comes to the off-road scene, forget it. There’s probably a reason as to why this heap of s**t doesn’t have it’s torque @ RPM easily accessible on the internet, that's cause the bitch is f*cking redlining when you reach maximum torque. That s**t works for the douches on the city streets at night who like to race and pretend they didn’t get that truck to make up for their cock size, not those who want to climb rocks and pound through mud pits (no not that mud pit ya dirty bastard ).

F*ck the Ford Raptor

Now let’s take a look at General Motors. Since the Hummer brand was disassembled in what feels so long ago, The car giant is losing out on money left and right with our group because they don’t want to take risks. Here’s an idea jackasses, bring back the Hummer brand with your HX concept!! Did you ever think, maybe the reason Hummer couldn’t out do Jeep was because it became boring after the H2 a bit? You have a vehicle that can strip down to its bare minimum and go demolish the trails and nothing to compete with it, you will lose because you are no fun. GM has tried to revive its hand in the adventurous side of the car industry. With the new Colorado ZR2 they’ve even brought in former Hummer design team members to develop an off-road capable pick-up. Unfortunately they will never reach their full potential into this small but dedicated clique with a vehicle that is also painstakingly plain at it’s most basic level. You might think, “Well if it’s the stock version, of course it’s going to be plain you stupid c*nt”. Well you’re wrong, look at the stock H3 when it was released in ’06. Did it have a lot? No. Did it make you sh*t your pants? No. But what it did do, was show the off-road industry was that GM can pack a punch in a smaller version of the HMMWV offspring. How many of you still have your 2006 H3. A decent amount for being 11 years old almost. That’s because it’s a solid f*cking rig. It handles beautifully on road ass well as off. That’s not to say that it doesn’t have its fair share of bulls**t to deal with, but they offered something the others don’t. Comfort and Capabilities. It had the ability to ride like an Escalade on the road, and tear through trails like almighty Humvees. GM has left behind a unique vehicle that holds one of the most iconic vehicles due to the Humvee’s part in the U.S. military since the 80’s and it’s civilian sister since it was introduced alongside the living Michelangelo sculpture, Arnold Schwarzenegger. GM has not only left the Hummer brand to rot, but they have isolated this dedicated group of people who love to adventure further than the road can take us. The group of people that wanted a vehicle that was not just iconic, but like nothing else.

F*ck you GM, bring back the Hummer.

Thanks to the admins for keeping this up! Y'all rock!

I agree 100%
Sadly everyone and their mother drives a lifted jeep, and nothing is appealing to me about being able to build a "rig" off of aftermarket parts from Amazon.
Everything you want to do to a jeep, has already been done, and it's as simple as removing a bolt, and adding your "modification"
As hummer people, sure we get sh*t for having an ifs in the "offroad community" but I sure as h*ll would rather drive an ifs than bounce around in a pos solid axle jeep with mud grapplers which have seen more curbs than mud.
"Building" a jeep CAN be considered a build, but 99% of jeeps are bolt on lift kits, with 35-37s and Amazon bumpers. I can't tell you how many men I see on a daily basis driving jeeps on 37's in business suits.
The hummer lineup is the most bada$$ group of off-road vehicles that have ever been produced, and the fact that our only competitor are tin cans with solid axles makes me cringe.
Thank you for this post Scot, I do have to say that the new f-150 is in another league because of its huge wheel base, and it is a fast truck, but there is no muscle in it anymore with its v6.
Nothing beats a hummer when it comes to reliability and stock offroad capability
GM needs a wake up call

I'm confused, what exactly is wrong with the Colorado ZR2? I think they look great, available turbo diesel engine, front/rear lockers, skid plates, rock sliders.... Ok, so it "only" has 31" tires, but other than that the only complaint I can come up with is there isn't a Trailblazer ZR2 SUV version.

Nothing wrong with the Colorado, my point is that it is and will remain a pick up truck and can't really expand further than that. Example, the Hummer started off as a giant wagon, then you had a pick up version of it. After the success of the 1, the produced the 2, a bit more practical and it rides nicer with more comforts, essentially became a "reasonable" vehicle for families. Then the 3, more compact and even more practical. Also providing the option for a pick up version of the latter two. They expand into different versions for people who are looking for different things in their off-road vehicle.

The Colorado will stay the same vehicle and can't truly expand into the different realms the somewhat diverse Hummer family presented to buyers. Absolutely love the new Colorado, and I'd definitely be interested in purchasing a diesel version, however I'd rather see the Hummer group return. (Side-note to GM, bring back the Hummer family with diesel options)

I'll bet a steak dinner it will never happen.

If the ZR2 takes off and has good sales, I can see a full size version coming in the future. Heck, I could ever see a spin off of the C/C to a Hummer style vehicle but doubt the actual Hummer name would ever return. However, for GM to spend a billion to bring forth a totally new vehicle (H4) for a very small segment is not likely.

The H4 concept that is always shown is not the H4 that was going to be built close, but not as elaborate as shown in concept form and known in the engineering at GM as the HX. The H2 and H3 were built on existing platforms; granted a lot of differences between vehicles built on those platforms such as the H2 had a unique frame and some drive components (off the shelve items) and the H3 had a strengthened frame from the C/C with 1/2 ton components added and unique off the shelve components such as T/case, axles, etc; but both vehicles were built on existing assembly lines.

The H4 was a complete new platform that at time of inception was designed to be built in one of the Mexican plants. Been years, but it was either going to be Ramos Arizpe or Silao due to the vehicles being built there at that time of inception. Is the design still at GM? Yes, will it ever be made? Could, but I really doubt it.

The H4 went away just like the redesign of the H2 with the new 4.5L Duramax that was coming due to a few reasons; main reason was GM was on the fast track to bankruptcy and finally they went bankrupt and dropped a few car lines in the wake. However, thanks to a particular segment of the US, the word Hummer became synonymous with very bad fuel mileage (the H3 was no worse than a Jeep, and there were many vehicles such as the RAM SRT that had worse mileage but this segment of society and the press ran the Hummer name into the dirt every chance they could get). We say it coming, so it was no big surprise for us.

But if serious trying to get it back, send Mary Barra a letter; she's the boss.

Glass bottom boat? I somehow think it has nothing to do with a water based vessel with a partially transparent hull.... ;-)

The new collie is a big step in the right direction for GM but you're right about the need for a true wrangler fighter and it was rather odd how nobody complained a bit about the mileage of all the Expeditions/Excursions/Escalades/Suburbans/Yukons/Tahoes/Silverados/F-150,250,350's and Rams, all of which got worse mileage than the H3 and really not much better than the H2.
Yes GM should bring back the H3 (or similar body) and compliment it with an HX styled sibling, existing plants should be available as they still have some that are scaled back or even idled and you can be sure they still have all the tooling for the 3's sheet metal. Really cannot see a financial reason for them NOT to build them with a GMC nameplate considering the market share that they seem to be losing.
Also found it rather odd that for all the bitching that jeepers made about the H3 that right about the time it disappeared they unveiled the Commander, an even tamer and more citified version of the H3, huh, go figure. Also odd that jeep seemed so threatened by the H3 they filed a lawsuit against HUMMER over the number of openings in the vertical grill being too "similar" to the Jeep brand and claimed infringement of their design. Laughable at best in my opinion.

My problem with GM is that AM General had a great setup with selling the H1 to customers and had a sales base that was second to none in service until they sold it to GM. GM treated the brand like every other mid level product and did not give it the special attention it deserved and needed to survive. Lynch motors is a great example* I hate GM.

The new Bronco is coming.

I have high hopes for the new Bronco but suspect it will be nothing like the Bronco we need or want.

Owned several over the years and could kick myself in the nuts for getting rid of them.

This new model will probably be so pussified......

Oh hell, nevermind.....I'm pissing myself off just thinking about it.

Whatever is brought back, invented from scratch if it wants to compete with the wrangler it must be a mid sized SUV, STRONG FRONT END, F&R lockers and low t case gearing. Problem is that the new 4Runner isn't taking seriously, it's to flashy IMO, an H3 was flashy but rugged. The 4Runner lacks that. The H3 lacked a good front end for seriously rock crawling unless you had a fully loaded front end sitting on your garage floor waiting for you to get home and swap it out. People also lack patience and the quirks of push button 4wd and not always working is another issue. Keep it rugged, simple and IFS or not a solid front end.

As for the JK they are overrated I drive my brothers and the H3 is hands down better in every aspect for driver comfort. Even mine off road can hang with a JK and our wheel 95% of them.

They cost a ton of money, then people throw another 60k at them in axles, and a real motor. Get an H3 alpha do a SAS and your in less money, much more comfortable vehicle and can hang with the best of em.

While I'm at it I'll add one more post instead of edit...if the H3 IFS was strong it wouldn't need a SAS it would need more clearance. Long travel is useless on an IFS H3 with more diff strength unless your only doing desert. An H3 needs a stronger front end and more clearance. If you get both from IFS it would work fine. Anyways hummer is gone but I love the H3 and would buy a 2nd one and do a mild build on it in a heartbeat way before any other ****ty 4x4. After working on them I would like another stock one and I feel there are many things I could do to make it better and on the cheap.

Look at it this way, if Hummer was still around, the ZR2 woulda been the platform for a new H3T. Can you imagine an H3T with a mini duramax and coilovers with whatever them fancy shocks they're using are? The front and rear lockers, rock sliders and skidplates are just a carryover.

The problem with jeep is that they have a very good market position. There's already a massive after market and they're an iconic brand that's been around for forever. They don't feel the need to compromise for on-road comfort because they will sell anyways and people that want a cozy jeep will just get a grand cherokee or a renegade or whatever.

Every other brand that puts out a off-road model compromises a lot. IFS is a compromise by itself. The only other model without IFS is the MB g series, and they changed that one, there would be a riot (a very small riot, but still...). The FJ cruiser was discontinued, Hummer was discontinued.

I don't think car makers are willing to risk making a real, solid axle off-roader. It's a huge risk going up against a giant like jeep. It's sad, because people like us who want something other jeep (because honestly, they just aren't that interesting) get screwed. It's very frustrating.

I've thought about getting a wrangler just because their aftermarket is so massive. It's just not worth it though. After I buy it, swap in a V8, swap the axles, and do a lift kit, I would have spent more than just doing a SAS on my H3. And I'll have something that's what I like, instead having another cookie-cutter jeep build.

I think GM is missing out on a huge market, but I doubt they will ever risk it again.

The funny thing is, the H2 could have been a solid axle rig if GM didn't use IFS for their heavy-duty trucks. *rolls eyes*

I think you're looking at it the wrong way. The Colorado will remain a pick-up the same way the H1 remained a wagon - H1 w/truck bed, H2, H3 and variants came later and are definitely not H1s. The same way a Colorado based SUV with ZR2 package could theoretically be released. No reason to come out with a new full sized suv, what they could do (again in theory) is come up with a very aggressive ZR2 package for the Tahoe/Yukon.

It doesn't matter what comes first, Colorado ZR2 in this case, what matters is if it expands. Seriously, if GM released a Tahoe on 35" tires with front/rear lockers, sliders offroad friendly bumpers and all the other offroad goodies don't you think that would appeal to most H2 owners? Wouldn't a Colorado ZR2 based midsize SUV be an ok replacement for H3s, or at least a step i the right direction? I'd love to see the return of the Hummer brand, and I'd be very excited if the H4 concept showed up in GM showrooms no matter what badge was on the side, but that's just not realistic. Hummer is not coming back anytime soon (probably ever), but there is hope for hummer-like vehicles. What we should be hoping for is expansion of ZR2 packages, real ones with true off road upgrades not cosmetics.

I was a long time jeep guy before buying my first Hummer. What I don't want is SFA. Sorry, I just don't. The off road wheeling ability gains are just not worth to me what you lose on the road. Seriously, stock vs stock Wrangler Rubicon vs Hummer H3 Adventure. The Rubicon isn't going to all that many places where an H3 can't make it, but the H3 is FAR nicer to drive on road. Yes yes, there is a lot more to it than SFA, plus I hear the newer Wranglers are getting better and better.... Point is, in the grand scheme SFA vs IFA is not a huge deal. The biggest advantage of SFA, IMHO, is it's just that much easier to lift.

Have you seen the new Tahoes and Yukons? Those will never be offroad vehicles, they're pretty much the last generation of the Escalade. Good in theory though I guess.

It's not too far fetched to see the Hummer brand return in my opinion. GM still makes the Hummer clone to hold onto rights and they could possibly just be waiting for the right time which could be soon. I think if the ZR2 takes off because buyers want offroad vehicles from GM again they may come to their senses. Look at Ford, they are working on returning to the offroad scene after their giant success with the Raptor and now coming back with the Bronco in a few years.

Yep, I've seen the new Tahoes/Yukons up close and personal - IMHO the new Tahoes/Yukons are ugly compared to the previous years (great interiors though). An offroad capable ZR2 version would required bigger wheel wells, modified bumpers front/rear, lift, etc.. I'm not expecting it, but it's vastly more likely than a return of the Hummer brand.

Ok, there is that as well. Doesn't mean you can't make a strong enough IFS not to matter, but you are correct - SFA is inherently stronger. At the same time, IFS is inherently nicer on road.

Or you could look into something different from outfitter designs...

They have been working on the Diff upgrade for quite sometime now not an easy task to get something to work. Bebes setup is the way to go but if I was to stay IFS ditch Torsion bars, HP44, 1 ton CVs, to keep it low dry sump or the shallowest pan you can find.

It's been in the H3 for 4,300miles so far ;-)
