H3T Utah guys...Does the Salt Lake City Area use much road salt?

My newly acquired 09 H3T spent five years in the SLC area. The underbody is clean as a whistle except for the exposed chassis welds, which are surprisingly rusty. Is salt corrosion an issue with SLC vehicles? Should I give my T the lawn sprinkler treatment? I thought GM dipped the whole chassis and body in zinc nowadays.

Not for on road vehicles. They use a chemical mix on the highways when it snows.
Off road can be a different story. The whole valley is basically an old lake bottom. So any offroad in the desert or by the lake will have a higher salt content.

By the pristine condition of the underbody, I doubt this truck ever saw a gravel driveway, let alone a trail.

You sure about that John? I was pretty sure they do use salt on the roads here, and plenty of the old cars I see driving around appear to be held together with rust and luck.

Something else very common, car washes with undercarriage sprayers. I try to hit one about once a month in the winter. It's not a true solution, but it has to help at least a little.

Yep tons and tons of salt. Literally. That's one of the biggest reasons we have so much road construction every single summer. In fact the last couple years they have "run out" of the salt budget money before end of December. Kinda a joke actually.
Yes washing your undercarriage would be a good idea.

That "chemical" is brine- Aka salt water. And that's only on UDOT roads, like freeways, highways and state streets. All other roads and parking lots use road salt for sure, and a lot of it.

brine and sand are what i have seen on the I70 and I15 not sure what they do on I80 and in the city, Moab just uses sand...
