Hi folks,

I happened to wander over to hummer.com today and was surprised to see the website had been redesigned. There are descriptions and a few photos of the 2's and 3's but no mention of the H1. I wonder if that's all part of the various legal agreements between GM and AM General.

not surprised as GM never liked the h1. They just renamed it, took design ideas from it, then steered customers away from it and to the h2. Not sure how much they had to do with (if anything) to the cost increases or if they got anything at all from h1 sales?

can't complain too much because owning an h2 made me want to get an h1.

Yea i saw this the other day too, i noticed that the info about the actual hummers is not as extensive as the previous site, and it seems like they are trying to steer you away from hummer and towards the other gm vehicles.

I like how any page you go to there is a link to see the other GM vehicles...I hate to sound cynical but it kinda pisses me off. They might as well just have hummer.com automatically redirect them to GM.com

Yup...
"The 2009 H3T’s solid foundation included a 3-piece, fully-welded ladder-type frame. High-strength steel side rails and crossmembers provided the perfect combination of off-road capable and on-road comfortable. That same structure is found in today’s GMC Canyon with the Z71 High Stance Off-Road Suspension."

Looks like it *does* come with a rear locker when equipped with the 5.3 V8 and 4x4. I can't seem to find the specs that talk about the ratio of the transfer case

Thanks for all the info guys. Maybe I am just getting too fired up about something I cant change but it just bugs me that if GM makes similar specs and then call it a HUMMER. If it was identical they should discontinue those too seeing how bad they are for the earth:roll:

Whoops, I phrased that bad. I should say comparing it to a hummer. I do wonder how they do offroad though.

Wow, I like the old site way better. I was going to saying something about all the other GM cars/trucks they are trying promote, but yall beat me too it. Not to mention no other helpful HUMMER info. Looks like I won't be going back to that site.

Not sure if that is anything new. Most of the frames used on trucks are high strength, and the welded cross members were used before. Hummers came with two additional cross members plus boxed front and rear side frames. Does the Z71 have the same?
And does the Z71 still use 1/4 ton powertrain parts past the trans, not 1/2 ton as with the H3? Does it use the Isuzu T150 T/case with the 248:1 low gearing or did they finally put in something decent? (Guessing they might put a stronger t/case in something advertised as off-road, but not sure about GM.)

Locker says automatic locker, sounds like the same type used on full size and is a modified Detroit Locker. I would think if it was electronic, they would say so.

Been out of the game for three years, but would like to see a side-by-side comparision on hoists to say that they use the same number of cross members and boxed ends. And maybe, the T150 is now a decent t/case or they actually use a decent t/case on the Z71.

I hate their use of the phrase "The Hummer spirit lives on at GM."

If the Hummer spirit was still "alive" I would be able to go to my local dealer and buy a new one!

They used to send me advertising saying that the Escalade was a replacement for the H2. I sent them a nasty letter and quit getting them.

I can't say I blame GM for using the Hummer to try and lure folks into a different GM...but I can't say I agree with it either. What about Pontiac and Saturn? Are their websites a billboard for Chevy now too?

Agreed, it makes business sense to try.... and yeah... They are indeed trying to position, for example, the Camaro as a replacement for the Pontiac Solstice
