If your motor mounts are bad the motor will move side to side. The trans mount can let the trans move up or to the side. which move the linkage. Is the shifter handle still in D when this happens?

Sorry, I was joking. I’ve had my wife complain of a few H3 “problems” that have all been caused by her purse either bumping the 4wd buttons or the shifter.

The shift linkage would be a good place to start. How many miles are on the H3?

Sounds like internal issue. Check the fluid and see if it smells burnt or has metal flakes in it. If it's clean, you are probably looking at a "soft parts overhaul". Basically replacing the vavlebody and accumulators to prevent fluid blowby. When too much blows by the tranny can t maintain enough pressure to keep the tranny bands compressed (kind of like a slipping clutch) and it slips. It it's been going for a while, then there is a good chance you will need to rebuild those too as they get fried due to slippage.

What did the fluid look like when you replaced it?

But, it's worth finding a good shop that can diagnose and try a cheaper repair first.

Good luck

And I am assuming you don't mean it the gear shift is sliding into neutral and that the tranny just feels like it is in neutral.

Real Black looking

Good chance you smoked the bands/clutches, but doesn't absolutely mean trouble. You would know if it smelled burnt, smells much different then standard ATF. If you wanted to try a cheap fix, you could attempt to replace the fwd, 1-2, and 1-3 accumulator pistons and seals. And it's only cheap if you do it yourself. But, my guess is you are probably looking at a rebuild.

My advice? Take it to a shop and see if they can do a diagnosis. If they are halfway competent, they should be able to hook up a pressure gauge and see if it's a hydraulic drop or not.
