So Will they ever bring back the Hummer brand?

There are so many threads on this topic.....

Cause I just watched a video on the new redesign Canyon and Colorado. That got me thinking, what if they never discontinued the hummer brand; what the hummer would look like today

i was wondering this the other day. with the popularity of the raptor and chevy making the reaper and dodge the ram runner, it makes sense. its risky, obviously, to bring back an entire brand to compete with a few models but they are ridiculously popular even though they're very expensive. I don't even see regular F150s anymore. granted, I live in west texas where every kid out of high school moves to make $100K/year just out of high school. a guy I work with has the roush raptor and he just works as a dispatcher. wranglers can't keep up with demand, either.

on an unrelated note, I think jeep ought to quit making those gay soft roaders and make a jeep that's based off of a 1/2 and 3/4 pickup. that would be awesome. come on chrysler, the 2500 already comes with a solid front axle :)

As much as I'd love for them to do so, I don't think it'll happen. Hummers are some of the best vehicles around and I think GM could blow the doors off the up and coming off road vehicles that jallen9 mentioned, but GM doesn't want to take the risk. It's truly a sad thing considering it's an American icon.

I talked to a gm exec last year and he said.....nothings off the table, which is a polite way of saying "idk" or "no"

It's OK guys I'll buy hummer from gm and resurrect it.

Honestly they don't even need to bring back the hummer brand just make a hummer under a different gm brand. Make a purpose built rig to rival the jeep

Or jeep needs to make a custom ifs rig that is great on and off road.

This is the option that makes most sense to me. There have been rumors of an upcoming GMC hardcore off road vehicle in the works for a while now. Whether it's a Colorado based truck with extra goodies, a beefed up lifted Yukon or something completely new I don't even have a guess any more. All three have been guessed at by various "insider" sources. I'm fairly confident they are working on something as an internal proof of concept, I'm less confident that what they are working on will ever make it to production.

Yeah, Im confident that even if they come out with something they are definitely going to screw it up. They have the ultimate parts bin but are to stupid to put it all together. AAM 9.25 ifs front diff with e-locker, aam 9.5 semi float rear with e-locker, 2500/3500 8 lug wheel bearings, 2500/3500 cv shafts (new ones are longer and can accommodate more wheel travel). Throw all of that under a colorado chassis with the lil diesel and some 315 x 70 r 17s and you would have a solid rig. It would not be the first time that GM made a new front frame section for a offroad version of a small truck. We do extensive work on the S10 ZR2 which have different fully boxed front frame sections and provided a wider track and taller ride height along with longer cvs. But...I have given up hope on GM building a competent offroad rig

I'm surprised by the "GM will just screw it up anyway" hate on here. Unless you consider the H2, H3, and variants to be completely screwed up... I'd like to see some GM brand come out with a real off road vehicle, and rumors abound about one in the works, but I'm not holding my breath. If they do, they might screw it up or they might do a great job with it. One thing is for sure, no matter what they do you will have a number of people that hate it and think they screwed up and another group that think they made the right decision.

I have loved my GM cars/trucks/SUVs but all the new ones have issues that just should not be there. Almost every model. It's disgusting. If GM comes out with a legit off-road vehicle, it will probably just burst into flames the first time you let it idle, fire off all the airbags, and then accelerate forward at full throttle until the key jiggles.

GM makes solid vehicles, but they are so uninnovative. ford comes up with cool new stuff all the time, and then 3 or 4 years later GM will release a competitor. for how big GM is, they could afford to take a few more risks.

Some of the responses in this thread are bull****. All the hate of GM. I have to ask of all the negative posters - if GM and HUMMERs suck, what is your personal opinion of the "perfect" 4WD OEM vehicle and why do you still own a HUMMER? Go buy that perfect vehicle and join their forums and then later bitch there about the POS vehicle that keeps breaking down that you can't afford to repair. If I were you, I would have ditched my HUMMER and moved on to the perfect factory 4WD vehicle by now. Take your bitching some where else and vote with your wallet. The whining is getting old and so are our rigs. Deal with it or sell it and move on. I love America and I do have a strong opinion about this topic, in case it wasn't obvious by now. If you hate HUMMERs now for whatever reason, ditch it and move on instead of being a whining beotch. Life is too short and it doesn't help anyone who has real life issues with their rig and needs some help and advice on how to repair their vehicle.

...OK, sorry, rant over but some of the posts in this thread got my "blood a boilin'". Sorry in advance if I offended anyone. [emoji12]

GM did screw the pooch with Hummer and screwed every Hummer owner in the process. GM bailed on Hummer and their customers to get a government handout. They were going to shutdown Hummer, then they were going to sell Hummer, then shut it down, no wait sell ,no kill it. In the meantime the value of everyone's Hummer was dropping by thousands of dollars because of the uncertainty surrounding the brand. Dealers were selling 2010 H3s at auction just to get them off their lot. I know a couple of dealerships buying them from other dealers at 60% of list. I was offered a brand new H2 at $25,000.00 off of list. Nothing wrong with the product. Everything wrong with how GM handled the whole process and how they impacted their own customers. Then they come out with their "Spirit of Hummer" campaign to sell Tahoes and Escalades. Seriously GM. I actually got a response from my letter to the head of GM marketing over that one. They called me. The letter made it to the circle of GM's executive team. The surprise part...they admitted they made some very unfortunate decisions regarding Hummer. My point, GM no longer has a world class 4x4. GM didn't know what to do with the world's most iconic and capable Offroad vehicle. They were never able to make serious inroads in the Offroad market. Hummer sales were a small fraction of the 4x4 market. I have owned every Hummer except the H3T. All great vehicles but GM didn't know how to leverage the product into the successful platform that it should have been. They blew it.
There might be a few on here that have owned a Hummer before I did but I can't think of who that might be. There might be one or two on here that have owned more Hummers than I have but once again I can't think of who those people might be either. Anyway, have always loved the product just wished the brand had been managed better. The product deserved to survive.
