Hey Dudes and Dudets.
I had a great ride home from work tonight.
I just started out. Probably 3 out of the 43 miles home. The truck in front of me kicks up a freaking rock and leaves a nice sized "bullet" in my driver side window. That ticked me off. Drove another 20 miles and I hear a tick-tick sound. It goes faster as my RPM increases. I should have pulled over and checked it, but it was a bad neighborhood. So I drive along. The ticking sound stops after about 30 seconds. Only I start smelling SMOKE! It gets kind of thick inside. Smells like burning rubber! It's getting worse! Open the window. I start looking for a place to pull over. After a few more miles, it doesn't seem so bad. All gauges look good. I decide to try and make it home. I get home and lift the hood.... The damn air conditioner compressor clutch! The plates on the compressor clutch are shredded. So I figure that's my next project. I wonder if I can buy just the clutch or do you need to buy the entire compressor. Anyway, I'm all pissed off now and close the hood. My rear view mirror falls off! It's hanging by the wire. I gave up and walked away... Grabbed a few beers and waited for the buzz to kick in.
Crappy trip home! By the way, don't you hate those long stories just to get your point across? :(

Damn Crank it was a Monday. I never drive my H1 on Monday I can't afford the carnage you describe. :)
As far as the clutch goes when I bought mine the compressor on the 95 was reasonable so I just got the compressor.

Good news is it didn't shred the accessory drive belt and cause all sorts of havoc. It also could have been the front drive shaft carrier bearing or something even worse.

Hang in there! This, too, shall pass.

Instances like this, is why I plan to buy an A/C Delete pulley and leave it in the Hummer. especially handy for road trips.

Sorry to hear about your troubles!

Does anyone know the "non Hummer" part number of the A/C Compressor?
Thanks Guys....

Just to give you an update on the smoking AC Compressor.....
I tore everything apart and found a couple hoses clogged up with tiny beads. Inside the dryer there are very tiny beads that I believe should not come out. Before putting all the new parts together, I'm going to flush out all the lines. Probably not good having these beads flowing into the compressor. Ya think?

Beware cheap aftermarket dryers. I cut one open, then a OEM one. Aftermarket one had hardly any beads. Did the dryer failure cause the compressor failure or vice versa you think?

I got to believe the beads in my dryer caused the problem. I can't say for sure but I did find the hoses and other parts full of beads. I'm still trying to get that all cleaned out before putting all the new stuff together.

Kinda weird that the beads would go through the evaporator then get by the orifice/expansion valve to the compressor! Its going to be a chore to make sure all the junk is flushed out of the system :gaah:

I finally got everything cleaned out. Flushed until nothing came out. I had one hell of a time trying to get the expansion valve off to clean it. I broke the bolt that went through the valve manifold and into the valve. It was so damn corroded. It took about a gallon of liquid wrench and twisting to get it off?
Check out the pictures. Top picture is the manifold/expansion valve with the broken bolt. The bottom picture is the manifold taken off. Zoom in on the port. The beads are packed solid in there. Replaced all the seals and parts. Hopefully
