Removal of my Onstar...

I want to remove my Onstar? Is this connected to any other part of my system? As in, any codes that would pop up. I'm stuck w/ the inside speaker, I'll disconnect or cut that wire, I'm worried about my outside antenna removal and cover for it, weatherproof and correct cover for it. Thanks

Don't believe it will flash a light, but might set a code inside the BCM. Haven't looked so not sure. That thing above your head is a microphone; not a speaker; Onstar goes through the radio speakers.

You can just pull the fuse to disable it.

My biggest concern then would be the outside antenna and cover when removed? I don't care if I have to cut or disconnect outside, it will never be used but, I do want the cover after removal. Is there one?

GM never made a cover to my knowledge. Vehicles either cane with Onstar and XM or just Onstar, and same location; just a different looking wart. I guess you could just get a rubber plug. Why the need to remove the black tri-antenna?

I believe there were some fleet vehicles that had neither XM nor Onstar and only had a rubber plug there - I rented one from Enterprise once. But, as Doug pointed out, you'd be losing XM capability too. Not sure if that's important to you.

according to the schematics, the brains for OnStar is in the back, left side, by the subwoofer. You could disconnect that to end any OnStar permanently. That said, I'd simply remove the fuse and be done with it.

The brains, (aka the module) is not located near the subwoofer; not sure where that info is coming from. That module is the monsoon amp. The Onstar module is directly below the radio.

I'd like to remove the onstar module from my H2 and use the space for a bank of switches, but have wondered the same thing about codes or lights being thrown by having the module removed.

Scott, lots of H2 owners removed their analog OnStar modules when the service was discontinued. Not sure if yours falls into that category, but you should be safe.

I just have no use for it, I don't have Onstar or XM. So I have a useless antenna on my roof. I am more worried about the plug after removal and if any codes would appear and or affect anythin else. This doesn't have to happen either. Its just a useless part stickin out of my roof. Thanks for everyones input

If you want, the shark fin part is made of rubber. Hack it off with an xacto, and leave the rest of the" puck" on there.

hmm - not sure if mine is Analog or not. I had service on it about 6 months ago. Regardless, it's a relatively simple unplug of the module and then I have a nice slot in the dash to mount a bunch of switches :)

I'm thinking only 03 H2s had Gen 5 modules and if I'm not mistaken, GM would have replaced those with later digital modules if the customer had paid for a one year subscription to Onstar. 04 and later should have been equipped with Gen 6/6.1 which were dual analog/digital modules. 06 H3s came with 6/6.1 modules...07 came with Gen 7 and not sure after that

My $0.02, some things are better left alone. If you take the antenna off you'll have a cap on it that looks just about as out of place. If you just remove the antenna, the green onstar light will show red. If you unplug the module located behind the dash below the radio, the light will go out. You wouldn't get any vehicle codes, at least on '07 or '06. Unplug the module and see if anything happens.
