Thanks a lot everyone. Maybe I should start a build thread? Or, I'll post updates here?

Yes, de-chroming is the plan. Looking for black door entry handles and side mirrors ... Suggestions?

OE handles are fairly cheap. The mirrors on the other hand are not. You might want to try using bedliner on the mirrors. That's what I did. Although my truck has seen A LOT of brush and trees and need to be redone

Ebay is great for stuff like door handles and mirrors. There's always a bunch of totaled H3's on there. For instance...check out this Adv. Pak with wheels, tires, Roof rack, and a Rancho lift that showed up the other day. Nice job...looks like he stuffed it into a Prius!...

You might be able to whore this one out, (sell off all the goodies and turn a profit). But, if you don't want to fool with a salvage project, you can try contacting the following Ebay members for individual parts:

spaldingautoparts
laceyautoparts
renos_auto
parts6307
jerrybrownsautopartscenter
donsautomotivemall
wayneautoparts

All of these ebay members have at least one wrecked H3...some have five or six of them. HINT>>> (they got Adv. Pak axles & t-cases too!)

Here is what I recommend if you plan to wheel it.

  1. CB Radio – I highly recommend this one
  2. Rock Sliders (Rocker Panel Protection)
  3. High Clearance Leaf Spring Mounts
  4. Longer Shackles, Level out the front end, and 35 inch tires – do this all at once, and still have a slight forward rake
  5. Skid plates from the front all the way to the back of the transfer-case (designing my own, but factory ones work great)
  6. Rear Locker if your H3 didn’t come with one
  7. Front Bumper with winch
  8. Rear Bumper
  9. Quick Disconnect rear sway-bar (designing this too)

Ray, do what you want, it is YOUR truck.

However, from what I have read on most of your posts, hitting the trails and off-roading does not look to be in your plans. Keep the stock wheels, paint them black and go with a 35" tire. Raise the front of the truck slightly, after that put whatever on there you think looks cool. 35" tires will set your truck apart from 90% of the other H3s out there.

That's a nice H3!

If I were you, I wouldn't de-chrome it because I like chrome. You have got a very nice chrome package. You can always think twice before making a decision. Because that's gonna cost you $$$$

But if you want an off road truck look of your H3, I recommend de-chroming your H3 + 35 inch off raoding tires + lifting your H3 + some other stuff ===> less comfortable ride.

This is my 2 cent

Good Info - THANKS. Modding the Hummer is not cheap. The people that seem to want me to do it, will make money off me. I simply want honest non money motivated advice, how to mod without over extending my Wallet. Thankssss !

If you are going to wheel with other people you will want a CB to communicate with others on the trail. If you aren't going to be wheeling you do not need a CB.
