Painting oem chrome wheels.

I plasti-dipped mine. Prep work consisted of a quick wipe down to get all the brake dust and grime off. Sprayed until I couldn't see chrome anymore. The trick is to get all sides of the spokes so you may need to try shinging light from different angles to make sure you get everything.

This was almost exactly 1 year ago. They have held up pretty well. The plastidip is peeling a bit in the corners now, but still holding up over all. It's not as vibrant as it was right after I painted, but it still looks great. Overall I was very pleased with the result. The good thing is if you don't like it, just peel it off and your back home in chrome.

Have them sandblasted and powdercoated for best results. For the center caps they can be lightly sandblasted or even sanded by hand before hitting with some flat black rattle can paint. Just need to rough up the surface so the paint will stick better to the plastic.

I thought about this, my girlfriend had her rims power coated matte black on her Mustang. $200 rim. I was just looking for a cheaper way to do this.

VHT makes a spray epoxy that my buddy used on his skid plate, its held up really well. I think they make a matte black version. Its about $10 per can, but its tough as hell and worth the extra $$ IMO.

I always use engine enamel or epoxy paint from vht. Once it cures it holds up well as long as prep and application were done correctly

Wow. It's $40/wheel here.

In my opinion powdercoat is worth it. Not $200/wheel but definitely less than $80 per wheel if you can find it.

I used "duplicolors wheel paint" on a set of very-well prepped H2's, and they looked awesome for a year, but then I bought an unlimited car-wash pass and it wasn't long before the car wash had destroyed the nice paint.

I cleaned my chrome wheels with acetone or alcohol and sprayed with Rust-Oleum bed liner, it holds up well and can be touched up with a Q-Tip.
