Off Road in Seattle

Just moved to the Seattle area in 2011. There are lots of great places to off road in the PNW, so I started looking at 4x4s. I considered a number of different vehicles. But at the end of the day, I decided there's nothing else like a Hummer. I spent about 8 months looking for the right vehicle. I finally found it in Nov 2013. My 2003 H1 is currently at Predator in Vista, CA for some upgrades. I should have her back home sometime around the new year.

Welcome from Co. and congrats
Also, we want pics

Thanks! I created an H4O album with the pictures from the dealer's website. Here's a link: http://www.hummer4x4offroad.com/forum/album.php?albumid=258
I pasted a few of the pics here also for convenience. Enjoy and let me know what you think.

cool, there's maybe 4 H1s that I know of in the Seattle area.... nice to know another is on its way... welcome

Thanks SBG. I haven't seen an H1 on the roads around Seattle since I moved here two years ago. And, only a couple H2 and H3s. This is my first off road rig, so I haven't been out on the trails to see them. Seems like every other vehicle up here is a Wrangler tho.

There's one owned (or just sold) by a guy who owns a gym that I don't think has ever been offroad (green pickup)
There's one that was owned (and my no longer be here) by a Christian recording artist - that went to South America like twice (fully wheeled - white pickup)
One I just saw a month ago with a I8PRIUS license plate - red wagon
And there's another green one around that the Ford dealership in Issaquah sold or is selling (not the gym guy's) that has a 350 in it (it was a disappointment to see that)

Honestly, since there's no longer Hummer, what is their choice? a fake FJ40?

*edit, forgot one - we SCVSAR used to have a Hummer until it was totaled by a drunk in a suburban while it was responding to a mission, no one hurt, but it gave its life.

Welcome! I've only been in WA since summer 2012. I'm way out in Okanogan County though. That's a clean looking truck. If you're gonna wheel it you may want to get some wheel guards to protect those nice 2pc alloys. Besides that enjoy it! There's nothing like H1s, any year is great. Pay special attention to the area between the steel top and the aluminum rear fenders as it's prone to corrosion and sometimes folks don't even notice till it's too late. Do you plan on working on it yourself? You should, there's nothing more gratifying. Doesn't take too many tools or know-how they're designed to be easy to work on and honestly it's near impossible to find competent mechanics that will work on them correctly (regardless of price). If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. Predator does hit-and-miss work. What are you getting done over there? Make sure they thoroughly road test it before it comes all the way back up here. Also, and this is IMHO, take a look at the other vendors (Rubberduck4x4, Bluehummer, etc) they are wonderful honest folk that provide quality, trail tested products (more than just eye candy) for fair prices.

Thanks, ICEntropy! Good suggestion on the wheel guards. I like the Zombie Response custom covers on Entropy Offroad. The switch panels are highly interesting as well. I'm planning to add some LED lights to the roof rack, and want a nice custom panel like those. Previously I had only seen the panels Rubberduck offers. But, honestly, I wouldn't buy one from them because I don't want to see that ugly duck logo every time I get in the vehicle.
I do plan on working on it myself to a degree. Although, I don't have the tools, facilities, time, and patience to do very complex work myself. I'm having Predator do a 6.6L Duramax conversion, upgrade to 12" Alpha style brakes, 12K half-shafts, and some other odds and ends. So far, in my experience, they've been a pleasure to work with. I'll let you know what I think after I get my truck back. But, I met the owners and a number of the guys in the shop. The all seem professional, knowledgeable, and honestly seem to love where they work. That's a good sign to me of people who take ownership and do quality work. Again, the proof will be in my results in a few weeks. But, I feel good about it.
That said, I'm always looking for other sources of parts, labor, and innovative ideas. I've already made a few purchases from Rubberduck. And, I've been building a library of Hummer related bookmarks as I surf the web. I appreciate your Blue Hummer suggestion, I hadn't seen them yet! And your site has a number of great looking products on it as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what's on your upcoming Firearms and Gear page. Keep me posted!

BTW: I met Bill Wu (http://thehummerguy.com/) when I was in San Diego on my way to Predator from the airport. I stopped by his place to purchase an OEM H1 rack to go between the rear seats in the H1. What a nice guy! He's got quite the stockpile of Hummer new and used gear, and top-end H1s in his shop. Bill was really helpful, and had a ton of knowledge / suggestions regarding H1s and off-roading in general. I really appreciate all the info and advice from the Hummer community at large.

Hey SuperBuickGuy, I checked out the SCVSAR site. Looks like a pretty cool organization! I may be interested in volunteering at some point once I get my rig all set up. Thanks for the info!
