Not a good day

Well, finally got tired of loss of traction control and reduced power problem every other day so finally took it to dealer. The obvious result was that I needed new head. They also determined that throttle body and throttle body connector are bad and computer needed to be reflashed for traction control problem. Also had torn boot on half shaft. Asked about them covering some cost of head and they weren't having it. Decisions

81,000 miles and two more years. Got a question for anyone who has or had similar problem. Dealer said they had a reflash for traction control that would stop that loss of power issue. If I had that done I could live with cylinder 5 misfire as long as it didn't tell computer to cut power.so how long could I get by before motor gave in

I never had a power loss issue with my head issue. Just a P0300 CEL on and off for a long time along with a funky oil burning issue that no one else has ever had.

Did they give you an estimate for the work?

Try calling GM customer assistance since the dealer won't budge. You might be able to get some help from that angle

That sucks. Don't blame yourself, you didn't design it. If it were me, I'd get what I had to have fixed on it to make it run for now (traction control issue) then buy a reman head and the other parts used and find a local reputable mechanic to do the work. Swapping heads isn't such a huge deal for a proficient mechanic.

Been reading posts and was hoping dealer would be a little bit helpful but I will call customer assistance tomorrow to get that ball rolling. That's my plan I think otter. Gonna live with head for now and if dealer don't cave I will buy one and have my mechanic install it. Never smell oil burning but give it time. If it can happen it will happen to me.

Mines an 06 and had the head issue after warranty ended. I told em It's a known problem so warranty or not it shouldn't matter and I wouldn't pay 2400 for a known problem I ended up with 1200 but they were so accommodating I think I could of gotten away with paying 800 if I really pushed it but I didn't wanna take advantage. Just don't take no for an answer. If this was a bizarre problem I wouldn't expert a cheaper price but this happens to everyone so it should be a reduced cost

Yea I'll keep chipping away at em. They quoted 2900, but they lumped in cleaning injectors, gaskets fasteners so I don't know what the head itself was.

X2 on what Zach says - I know guys who will do it for much less than that. Get an independent to quote it too.

Dont feel bad about not researching.. I have an 08 with only 62000 on it and just had to have the head and exhaust manifold replaced... Luckily mine has the extended warranty I purchased with the truck.. Like the others say, keep on them.. Its a known issue and they should at least cover half of if... Good luck

Well after a few emails to gm I received a call today from the dealer. Gm offered , after a gm phone call, to do the work for $960. They will even change tstat coolant and clean injectors. Today is a good day

Nice, Algin! It's nice when things work out.

I have to spend about $1000 on maintenance of my wife's car (tires and alignment...), which actually works out pretty well since she can't really complain about the hummer's maintenance costs now. :)

EDIT: Not that she WOULD complain...
