I used to have a '93 Talon TSi-AWD. Older body style, but essentially the same engine. You NEED a boost gauge, A/F gauge (wideband is better), manual boost controller (can make one for under $10), BOV from a 1G or aftermarket (the 2Gs leak under pressure), and you probably want something like a 16G turbo. The SMIC is actually pretty good, but a FMIC can be a little more efficient. At this point you are pushing the limits of your clutch (my clutch was starting to slip at full boost), and get to decide if you want to call it done or get into big $$ making it stupid fast.
The one car I wish I never would have sold.

Tiny hold drilled in the body of my DIY MBC (two versions shown). IIRC, I didn't use the right bearing in the bottom MBC, but I like the second design better - easier to adjust. Finding the right spring is the hardest part.

Yes, if you get a DSM you probably want the manual. I prefer the 1G to the 2G - when I was "in the DSM crowd" a common saying was if you want to look good get a 2g, if you want to go fast get a 1g. Not strictly correct once you start upgrading enough stuff, but out of the box it's easier to make a 1g MUCH faster than stock for dirt cheap. After adding a boost gauge, you can safely add 50+ hp for under $20. I was using a gtech pro to chart the HP gains from mods (not as accurate as a real dyno, but passable for estimating changes). Baseline runs averaged 155hp to the wheels, pushing boost into the safe levels got me 205hp, and pushing the limits of safe (no A/F gauge, but I'm sure I was at the limits of my injectors) I was able to break 225hp to the wheels.SWEET 1G you had there. I'm looking at an automatic. Never tried a standard, though most told me I should buy a standard if i'm looking at DSM's.
So what are your plans for it?
Im assuming your going to lower it, put a racing spoiler on it, have rediculous amounts of power, and put a body kit on it right?

For 1g, the auto has a smaller turbo and smaller injectors - less power. The 2G has the identical engine setup for auto and manual. For both 1G and 2G, the tranny supposedly isn't very good (never owned one myself), plus taller gears mean in all cases straight from the showroom floor the autos are slower than the 5-spds. Plus, 5-spds are just more fun to drive. If you don't care about the manual being a little faster, don't plan to mod your car much, and if you plan to drive in stop and go traffic, an automatic might be a better choice.
Never driven a manual? You need to find someone that will let you learn on one. Since it's becoming clear you are building a fun car, not just picking up a daily driver, do yourself a favor and get a 5-spd. Really not all that hard to learn, and other than stop and go traffic (or wheeling) they are more fun and give you more control. As for the 800+whp cars, those are stupid expensive to build. Realistic numbers for us regular guys are more in the 300-350hp range, and even then you are looking at new injectors, new turbo, piggy-back or stand alone ecu, new clutch.... Getting 200whp can be done on a good condition solid engine for around $100. Getting 300whp safely is more like $2k - it gets expensive, just image what those guys are spending for their 800whp cars, plus constant repairs.Never driven a standard. I've been watching some vids on youtube of guys that have 800-1000whp. Crazy!
Since he isn't answering, I'm taking a wild guess, reading between the lines, and say he is going for looks first then fun to drive second. As soon as he mentioned 3rd gen Eclipse I realized performance was low on his priority list.What are you going to build it for? Daily Driver? Street Machine? Drag? AutoX? Drift?
