So I have a 2009 H3T base and a puny engine. I want suggestions for an engine swap. I don't care if it's deisel or gas. I do care about price. Also I need a new transmission for the engine.

5.3L is easier then a diesel swap but cost is a non option you can avoid, you will spend thousands. If you do it yourself that will save money but if you don't your price will likely be over 10k with labor.

Anything can be done you just need to be the one going through all the trouble.
A 5.3 swap is a done deal as 06H3 has done all the work and probably got so much of the guess work out of the way and documented it here.

Hey 06H3, you did the swap could you guide me through the process of buying parts? I'm going for the 5.3l.

yea, motor, current performance motor mounts, harness from Jamie 04colyzq8 on 355 nation forum or harness from current performance. Factory H3 alpha oil pan, factory fan shroud and a/c lines from an alpha. When you get all those I will go into more detail

I don't get the desire to do a swap that was available as a factory option. Just trade your truck in on a alpha somewhere. You will end up money ahead, and definitely time and headaches ahead. Unless you are just looking for a project just to say you have a project.

Unless you are trading it for a truck like Alrock's, I can't decide if he's the reason everything keeps breaking on it, or it's a slight lemon. :giggle:

Seriously though, I could see wanting to do a swap on a truck that you know is in good shape and trouble free, vs swapping it for one of unknown history/quality and ending up with a piece of garbage. That being said, once mine is paid down enough (seeing how I haven't even had it a year yet) I'll probably find some nice Alpha to trade it in for. Then all the work I did on my first one can be redone, but better.

Some of us are sentimental Mate !!.
A piece of me would be gone if I ever were to trade or sell Panzer. All the memories, stories would be gone, even tho the other one truck might appear the same it wouldn't be the same.

I agree in certain situations, like if you have a torsion bar crank and 35s on it trade it because that's easily reversible. For me, no way in hell. Spending weeks in the driveway doing the solid axle swap up front, gearing axles, cutting **** off the frame, etc. I wasn't about to do it all over again! I was deep enough to just V8 swap it, especially when I can't sell a truck with a blown up 5 cyl lol

No arguments here on those points. Guess it just depends how deep you are into mods on your current vehicle. It didn't sound like the OP was that deep into his, just wanted "more power" out of what is a currently functioning vehicle.

As badly as I wanted to do my swap, I waited until the I5 gave up the ghost.

Sentimental or semi mental I feel the same way. I'd never sell Hercules. I get what they're saying about the swap though. If I find a 6l ls I'm snatching it up.
