You are welcome to get offended by the frankly rather generous and kindly worded, if blunt and straightforward feedback about how you are writing your posts and questions, it is a free country. Maybe this is the first forum you've really been on, since I can guarantee that a lot of other forums would have been far less patient and kind with telling you what to do, many times which includes doing unspeakable things to yourself.
It sounds like you're not used to having someone tell you that what you are doing is wrong or at least could be done better and how, what with your conclusion that we are all "jumping on the bandwagon" or anything like that. This place stays pretty civil for the most part, so if you were that offended by what we told you, then you're in for a rough time on the internet. I've personally been online since before being online was even really a widespread thing. Probably longer than most of the other guys on here have been, though not all, we have some dinosaurs on here too. (It was probably about '90 or so for me, it was before AOL came into being. Anyone remember Prodigy?)
At any rate, you can either choose to be offended and end up getting yourself nowhere, or choose to take the feedback we are giving you and use it to improve your communication skills and move forward in your life. It's up to you.
As far as spoon feeding you what the buttons do on your rear view mirror, they are the OnStar control buttons. You probably don't have OnStar activated since it is a subscription service from GM, so they aren't really going to do anything for you. One is for contacting an OnStar operator, another for emergency assistance, and I can't recall if there are any other buttons. Might be one for making phone calls using the OnStar system. One of the buttons though controls the dimming feature of the mirror I believe, and possibly also to calibrate the compass, but guess what? I can't recall offhand and like most everyone else on here would need to pull up or open up the owner's manual to figure out just what exactly the buttons do. That's the main reason you're not really getting a detailed answer on this (aside from the method you've chosen to use to attempt to communicate), is most of us haven't any more of an idea than that, and it's less time on our part to just point you to the manual that has detailed instructions in it than typing it all out for you.
Sure, we could open up the manual and copy/paste everything for you. But there is that old bit of wisdom that comes to mind. "Give a man a fish, and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and feed him for a lifetime."
In other words, you were given where to look for the information, and that source of information will not only give you that answer, but many, many other answers to questions you will have about your new vehicle. So instead of waiting for someone to give you an answer every time you have a basic question about how to operate your vehicle, you can instantly get the answer yourself using that resource.
As for searching the forum, I find it works better to use Google's "site:" feature with its search engine. Like this: "site:
www.hummer4x4offroad.com/forum owners manual"
Much more intelligent than the forum software's search, though it might not have all the posts indexed, especially newer posts.
