Light wiring

So my roof spot lights are currently wired to two different switches, one controls the left two and the other one controls the right two. One of my winter projects is to do some rewiring, and i want to have only one switch for all of the roof lights. Sooo if i splice the wires together, am i going to have to put a bigger fuse into the wiring harness to handle the additional juice/output?
I know this might be a noobish question, but id rather be safe then sorry! haha

Well, you do need to make sure the power supply wire and the fuse are both enough to handle the amp draw of all the lights. You will probably need a little bigger relay, too.

Assuming you are using two seperate relays with the lights, there should be no problems with running two relays off one switch. If you are not using relays, you should, then use one swich to trigger muliple relays.

That's how I wired my roof lights:

Ok well im going to most likely split and extend the positive and negative ends by the lights, so that all 4 are connected into one switch, and see if it can handle it, if not, ill put a bigger fuse into the harness. Hopefully i wont be starting any fires :shifty:

A bigger fuse is not an answer, if the wiring cannot handle the additional current. More to adding additional components to a circuit than increasing fuse sizes.

If you are using two relays, it can be assumed the high current is currently going through the relays to the lights. So, do as Steve said and run the two relays off the one switch. Should be no problem connecting the switch to both relays with no need for any increase in any fuse.

But some more info on how it is currently wired would help us all out.

I have 4 kc lights on the roof which come in pairs and when i installed them i simply hooked each one up with their respective relays to the battery. Ill see if i can find a pic of the wiring harness somewhere

Are all 4 lights the same beam? or can you get a different lense? I'd setup spots in the center two, and flods on the outside. Two switches would be great for that, then you could leave the wiring as is.

Mud, that's my KC setup. The two center KCs are the long range pencil lights and the two outer ones are driving. (Wanted flood lamps but I got such a good deal I couldn't pass it up.) I will often only use two of the four lamps depending on the purpose at hand. Outer lamps are used more often at slow speed, like crawling on trails, and the long range lamps are used at higher speeds like deserted roads.

I have 4 pencil/long range lights on the roof, and 2 driving/wide angle lights on the brushguard. The plan is to wire the two relays for the 4 roof lights all to one switch, and just keep the brushguard lights as is. I plan on wiring these to the oem switches in the center control cluster. I am just tired of hitting my knees on the lights everytime i get in and out of the car. Like i posted earlier i wont be able to do this till i have a garage i can get too, because the parking lot is just not ideal, and its cold outside too haha. We just replaced the normal lights in the H2 to some ridiculously bright lights (or so thats what my dad says) so i will be replacing my normal headlights at the same time. :woot:
