Looking to buy a cargo drawer for the H3 right after Christmas to haul (and organize) my recovery gear, tools and spare parts. I kinda like the drawer Husky used to make for the H3 but found it to be a bit on the small side (height wise) for some items.

Here is a picture of the Husky Liners (discounted)

I think I would like a single or dual side by side drawer that would be same width and depth as the cargo but come up to the bottom of the side cargo doors. Who here has one? I would love to see some pictures and suggestions!

I always something like that for my firearms. Unfortunately now with the slant back I can no longer have one. :(

I have a shelf but without the drawers. Used scrap 1x8's as a base with a scrap sheet of oak plywood for the top. I carry my 15# Co2 tank, 3 fire extinguishers, jumper cables, tarp, 4"x30' strap w/ shackles, tire deflator, bottle jack, etc under the shelf. All organized into 3 compartments as the 1"x8" base is an inverse U (opening towards the door) with the plywood screwed to the legs of the U. Co2 tank on the left, fire extinguishers, jumper cables, deflator, bottle jack etc in the center, tarp and strap on the right.

I think to get a tight fit that doesn’t waste space plus the height you want you’re going to have to go with a custom unit. You can also have a custom unit use the existing tie downs and make sure you add additional tie down on top to secure additional gear to the top of the box.

Keep in mind that you’ll have to be able to open the door at least 90 degrees before you can open the drawer. Also, if you put too much weight in, it is will be hard to open or close on a steep grade so be careful what you put inside it. For example don’t stow the wheel chocks inside.

To provide the maximum usable space you need to specify 100% extension drawer slides and side mount should preserve more space inside the drawer than bottom mount. Also, since most drawer slides are intended for use in furniture and cabinets, the weight ratings are for static loading so you should have a safety margin of 2 to 3. Here are some examples of side mount drawer slides. :link:

I've always wanted a drawer system. Even started building one once out of wood.

The ultimate for me would be to get rid of the plastic panels on the sides and have something fiber glassed/bolted to the floor. You could have drawers coming out of the box itself, extra storage drawers on both sides and something custom for a subwoofer without taking up any real space.

Glad you guys brought this topic up! I carry a ton of crap. I really need to start purging but I will still need to set up some type of cargo box to organize. My thoughts were to have two types of setups. Setup 1 is daily driving. I carry spares, tools, extra clothes, boots, and all sorts of stuff daily. Reason being is that I have had phone calls while at work, school or around town that someone is stuck offroad broken down and I have no time to go home and get my stuff so I carry stuff on me 24/7. One down side to this is limited room when at a store buying stuff so I came up with a solution. I was thinking for this setup a Cargo box that carries everything for tools, spares and recovery. Then on top of that have one half open for tall objects and the other side will get a "table" so I can put things on different levels.

Setup 2: is when I plan to wheel. I will take out the rear system and put in the cargo box for the middle row. This will be for planned trips when wheeling with 2 or less people. This is to keep the weight out of the trunk. I tried wheeling with everything in the center of the vehicle and I felt a difference. As for the added weight of cargo boxes I was thinking deaver springs. The rancho springs sag anyways so if I do a spring over with some deavers I can set it up to accomodate the weight.

Just so im getting this right, these look like they basically bolt right into the trunk where the existing hook are in the trunk right? If so, i dont think it would be that hard to make one yourself? Just a thought

I have a Truck Vault in my H1. They come in an many different configurations. Single or dual drawers, 8 or12 inch depths, with vertical and horizontal or diagonal dividers. They have a website TruckVault.com. There distributor in Ohio is RubberDuckOffroad I'm not sure of of what the website is, but that's where I got mine. I use mine for my tools and recovery equipment, along with carrying my hunting rifles. It comes with either a key lock or a combination with a key back-up. I also have a three day emergency provisions backpack. Ask for Shirley and tell her Bill sent you maybe they'll send me another t-shirt. LOL

We all feel sorry for your slantback situation. (please note jealousy and sarcasm )

I have to complain about something. :)

Actually the whinning was more a concern towards keeping my firearms secure. I'm sure I'll eventually come up with a solution.

I built my own out of wood. I used 3/4" plywood with a oak exterior. finished it with lineX and it turned out great. Only thing I changed since is I got a catch on the slides now for if I'm parked on a hill it won't come flying out.

It holds quite a bit.

It's held in by tension rods and a bolt is used to pin it shut when not in use.

I love the AMStar box in the first post - anyone know where to get those?
Here is my current solution to carrying all of my crap. Picked this Contico trunk up about 6 months back at an Army Surplus store for $60. It holds a ton of stuff, is solid & study, and tough as nails. It isn't my ideal, but it certainly has been a good short-term option for me.

Still would love to know where I can get that AMStar box though

The AMSTAR unit was never produced to the best of my knowledge, it was only a prototype unit but the ended up going under before it was ever produced.
