Here's an odd one! Weird squeaking sound started Thursday and again today Saturday. I've now heard it three times in just a couple days.

Stats:
07 H3 Basic 73k miles
brakes replaced within last 5K miles. (Ceramic front and back....and new front rotors, new slide pins and clips)
shocks, tires, 1 front hub + hardware, lower intermediate, upper lower intermediate and steering rack bushing all replaced in last 4K miles
belt, t-stat, temp sensor, belt tensioner, battery etc all replaced in last few years

Noise in question:
It started Thursday of this week with puling away from the curb with it sounding like the noise you'd get from air brakes when they engage. Today Saturday it was to a lesser extent but very much the same. Ive also heard this noise when people have very cheap brake pads and they howl, squeal, screech squeak.

I verified the the cv boots are good
I verified that the brakes had plenty of liner still left on them
I checked and listened for tell tale signs of cv, u-joint and hub noise Nope!
The brake pedal has plenty of good brake stomping power and no slop.

So, lol what do you think?

Now when you say you were pulling away from the curb, were you on the brakes or gas?

Also, this may be a stupid question, but when was the last time you washed your truck?

Thanks for responding..
Washed h3 today after running around. This was after the squealing earlier.
I was on the gas no brake when leaving curb. Same with going through drive thru at bank and at stop light at intersection.

Well, if it's a squeak on acceleration I wouldn't be surprised if you could see it when getting under the truck. If you're not on the brakes, that shouldn't be the issue unless the parking brake was grabbing. Maybe the pedal isn't fully releasing, or the parking brake has failed and is rubbing. After that, I would have someone walk alongside it as you take off slowly down the street and see if they can pinpoint the noise to an area of the H3.

That's the odd part of this noise it happens intermediately. Before Thursday hadn't heard it. Nor could I hear it on the way home.

Pulling away while turning? Might be the rack squealing, mine has been doing that lately.

Stuck caliper could be doing this. And if it's not wheel related, maybe you look at the pulleys- idler and tensioner.

And not to pick on your brake work, but if the clips were not installed correctly are are not sitting correctly now, maybe that's the issue.

Sorry, I've yet had free time to look at this recent issue lol!
Been busy. I've also got a Cherokee that has stuff going. Namely front axle ujoints.
Got em, now just have to install em.

Well today after a busy, very hot muggy day, got to some stuff on H3.
Took the back wheels off and pulled the rear brakes apart. Replaced the pads for the rear under warranty. Ordered the replacement pads and rotors for front while at Vato-Zone!
There all covered under warranty, so no biggie. :) Got to love that about the Zone...
The pads were about 30% worn but still in ok shape.
The rear and the front drive shafts both had zero signs of slop or metal dust and such. So, Sat. or Sun. will be ripping out front to redo.

Well, today I made time in schedule to address the whole noise thing....
Went to Vato- zone and they had sold the rotors I placed a hold on lol!
They did get the brake pads shipped in but alas poor heratio I ended up driving across town any who....

But the positive aspect was all covered by warranty so no out of pocket for parts yeah!!!!!

All back together and stop the press...... WTF! The wheel is shaking 12 & 6 like a child's rattle UGH! Cue Snoopy.....
Sh!t... Yep! The drivers side hub is toast. I'm a betting that is the noise maker.
Thank God that it didn't separate on us last weekend. We ran all over for hours. I then hauled the business trailer all week in searing heat and humidity. Lots of stop and go.

I need to get a hub ASAP. Needs to be done yesterday!
Funny thing never felt any of the tell tale signs or heard any noises till 9 days ago but it sounded like squealing brakes.

Have any of you guys priced hubs locally? Wow, $350 and up at most retailer's, big box etc... Went to Amazon with 2 day prime $205. That's worth the wait.

Wanted to do a follow-up...

Got the hub delivered yesterday evening to my home and went about replacing the bad one.
My Lord was that a bastard to get out. This is my 5th time removing a hub on an H3, on 2006 & 2007.
I pounded, air hammered and sledge hammered the crap out of that drivers hub and it took 3 solid hours, a can of PB blaster and a broken tool to dislodge it.
Once it was out the replacement process was straight forward.
Happy is running tight, quiet and smooth today.

Next time, borrow a hub puller (slide hammer) from AutoZone. You bolt it to wheel studs and use the side hammer to pop the hub loose from the knuckle. It works most of the time but, not always. Prying the hub away from the knuckle usually results in destroying the dust shield and I've had to replace them on several H3's.
For some reason the hubs fuse themselves to the knuckles.

I had to take my assembly to a local shop and get them to use a press... tried the slide hammer and the thing didn't budge the slightest bit

Yep, same here with the slide hammer that is.
Tried it in past and nothing seems to work quite as good as bfh.
Man my hands are in agony today lol!

Glad to hear. I've been lucky on hubs. 169,000 miles and on original hubs. Replaced just about every other moving part aft of the engine.

Wow. That is fantastic. I would jump for joy if I had gotten a 100k. Between 62-73k both have now been redone. Of course I do not know if they were OEM as I bought h3 used in 2011.

Really surprised it wasn't a u joint. The squealing sound is classic u joint...
