Help no engine light!

When I turn the key, all lights come on and then off after a few seconds like normal. But the engine light never lit.

When I turn the key to start, nothing happens. No sounds. The battery is new and charged.

Anyone have any ideas?

Moved this to the H3 section as you'll get more responses. When in the "Ask Mike" most readers tend to bypass this and wait for Mike. I suspect this is not a complicated issue; well, I hope its not!

How have you verify that the battery is charged? Maybe you had a bad alternator and the new battery is discharged. What if you jump the H3 with another vehicle? I would check the fuse panel, especially the master fuse. Pull the other fuses one by one and visually inspect and test if you can.

Thanks,
have installed a new battery and terminals. Also have a charger on it. I have tested every fuse. All good.

OK, installed new Ignition Switch. did nothing, so put old one back in.

That damn pesky ignition light, we hate it when its on, and when its never on!

Anyone know where the BCM or body control module is?

I found this number 25816709 but Amazon says its not for my vehicle

Uhmmm!
I believe I would personally start with easiest things 1st...
* verify that the battery is correctly installed? Is it the oem dimension or did it get changed to another size? Is the battery reading 12.9V approx?
* verify all wires and connections made it back onto the battery.... did you miss a ground or pos wire? Did ya get em back words?
* did the H3 start before you messed with is?
* have you checked the starter to make sure it is not ceased?

Why the BCM? The service engine soon lamp (aka the light with the engine) is controlled directly by the PCM (the other bulbs are controlled by the BCM.) But before spending money on a computer replacement, a little diagnosis might save some money.

Check the connectors to the PCM (under hood, right side of engine compartment on the dash panel). Make sure they are all tight. They are lever lock style. Also, make sure the water tight seals on the connectors to the PCM are in decent condition.

Good idea, unplug your battery and pcm and re plug them all in. I had to do this to my friends jeep when he was stuck in the school parking lot, with the same problem.

Just make sure to disconnect the neg battery cable prior to removing all the PCM connectors. Make sure the PCM connectors are dry, all pins are straight, gasket is in good condition, the plug back in, then reconnect the neg battery terminal.

ok, after checking and testing:
new battery installation,
new battery cables/wires,
Ignition switch,
every fuse x3,
everywhere,
I looked at the BCM and it was very wet. Grrrrrrrrrr

Dryed it out, the truck started. YAY! Drove 30ft and it died. Seems to allow you only to drive short distances.

Can anyone tell me if I order a new BCM if it comes programmed? Also I need the part number 25816709 When I select it says its not for my vehicle. Is it different for the 3.5L ???

OK got it, the pesky gremlin!
If you look at the top right of the pic, the wire to my spare visor video display was chaffed and touching a ground wire.
Why some bozo decided to take power for this unit off the BCM is beyond me. What a wast of time. But I am back on the road now! er Jungle I mean lol
