Good to be here! I have a 06 H3 and love it! Just got it a few weeks ago. I use to off-road a lot in my youth. Built myself a 1987 Silverado red on top white on the bottom if any of you remember them. Put a Dana 60 in the front, a corp 14 bolt full floater in the rear with a disk break conversion. Detroit lockers front and rear 38in boggers built a nice 427 forged pistons 10.1 steel crank balanced, nice eldelbrock heads. Put out about 500hp on 93 octane. 400 turbo tranny 208 case. Pretty common toy Chevy truck build. Anyway that was 20 years ago and got rid of it when the children came. Plus the jerk strap snapped and blasted through my back window and into the front and the dash trying to pull my buddy out. I owe God big for saving me on that one! Haven't had a truck after getting rid of the monster until now. Got a question for you off-roaders about my H3; I'm looking for the best front brush guard. I want it black, cool looking and tuff enough to protect my front end from deer. I live in the country and they are everywhere. I would appreciate any real life xp you have to give me on what to get.
Thank you for your time
Karl

An arb front bumper would do the full job, and offers more protection than a brush guard.

Welcome to the forum Marine. Both of the advices given are right on the money. The ARB bumper is the one that will probably best protect your front end. It will also allow you to mount a winch in the future too. Unfortunately, it's heavy. One of the forum sponsors, Thor Parts, makes a great front bumper that also includes a winch mount. If your looking for a lighter solution, then go for the Predator brush guard. It wont protect as well as the ARB, but its much stronger than the OEM one. They have many different versions so look them up and see which best fits your needs.

I use the Predator HD brush guard and love it. The Search & Rescue version was more than I wanted, but its considerably stronger. You can custom order them with additional light and antenna mounts if you want. Here's a pic of mine:

With the Predator brush guard, you can in the future mount a winch using one of the hidden winch mounts out there. Predator, DeFelice, and Schwarttzy make one. Schwarttzy is a forum member and probably has the mount I would get if I was to go that route. Here's a link to his thread:

Welcome!

I'm looking for the best front brush guard. I want it black, cool looking and tuff enough to protect my front end from deer. I live in the country and they are everywhere.

I have had and continue to use brush guards. They are great for things like branches and other vegetation (ie BRUSH) on tight trails. If you want protection from something like a deer, as others have said you probably want a full replacement bumper with the brush guard part integrated into the aftermarket bumper. They are expensive, which is the only reason I don't have one (yet), but if you are seriously concerned about deer it's a much better option.

I've been in three vehicles that hit a deer, once as a driver and clipped a fawn on the corner of the bumper. Once as a passenger that side-swiped a deer. And once as a passenger and hit the deer square in the grill of a pick-up - this required a tow, the others just did cosmetic damage.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! My Wife says I can get whatever brush guard my old ass wants! So now I need to go back on the thread hit up those links! Thank you all for the advise! When I was younger with more time it seemed, I built my own for my Silverado. Made one for my buddy too. At the time I was working for a environmental well drilling company. Late 80's. I cut the frame mounts with a plasma torch on 3/4 in plate steel and built the rest of the full bumper / brush guard out of schedule 80 steel well casing. Started with 6 inch on the bottom and tapered up protecting the whole front end with 4 in then 3 in. I even used elbows so it wrapped around the fenders! I thought it looked sweet! Until it was time to put it on and couldn't lift it! Anyway I ended up having to brace up the frame after that because I was afraid it would destroy it. It took on plenty of Deer, trees, chains, jerk straps, other trucks, small children from the hood.........jk on the kids.....:) I would bet a paycheck they are both still out there somewhere on some kids truck smashing something!
