If you ever plan to dinghy tow your 3 behind an RV or motor home, please make sure you put the tcase in neutral. If you put the gear selector in neutral, this is what happens.
This melted the trans case and internal gears together. First for me seeing this
Seems my pic won't come up from tapatalk. Will post it in am

Yeppir. Those fluids don't get pumped around in the t-case when dinghy towing and the engine isn't on.

BTW, I have a dinghy tow bar mounts available for an H3/H3T if anyone needs it. Mounts to the existing front d-ring mounts.

We talked about that today, think it is pushing 4hi and 4lo at same time for about ten seconds till the red light flashes. Will confirm, the process tomorrow so everyone knows. Bad thing with this, customer bought a trans with GM warranty a year ago. Brought it in thinking warranty. No way we can touch it under warranty.

how exactly do you put the t case in neutral...noob question, but I've never done it

If my memory don't fail me you press has 4-hi unlock and 4lo lock at the same time for so many seconds...and the N would light up...then you can release the buttons...you got to have the shifter in N as well I believe...everything can be found in your owner manual...I did back when I bought my H3.

So just to clarify....you want to dinghy tow it with the transmission in park and the t-case in neutral? That is what i got from the manual

Yup, towing an automatic in neutral is bad news. That's why you must use the transfer case to literally disconnect the tranny from the rolling wheels/axles. Then, putting the transmission in park prevents any rotation of the transmission from taking place. The transfer case is more like a manual transmission that is bathed in gear lube; it doesn't require the fluids to be pumped through it like an auto transmission does. Man, that's some ugly damage to that transmission, ain't it? Unfortunately, oftentimes in life the lesson is given AFTER the test, not before! :)

Well, that statement pretty much shows the level of intelligence you were dealing with. I used to deal with crap like that when I had my own business. You would be amazed some of the stuff people felt should be covered under warranty.
