I got to test out a new to me app Maplets yesterday at Brown's camp.
It allows you to download official trail maps and national forest maps for use on the trails. Using your phone's GPS it will also show your position on the map. It worked really well, I never lost signal and it is very convenient to have the official map with the trail markers on it.
So far I was able to find maps for Brown's camp, walker valley, Evans creek, lake Tahoe, and Mt Rainer. The app costs $2 on android, but so far it has been worth it. The one thing I wish it did was leave a trail on the map of where you have been.
