Front end clanking noise!!??

So whenever i go over a bump I hear and feel a clanking noise from the front end. I have been under this thing many times and can't see any visible issues. I've checked all the bolts and fasteners. When I'm driving straight on a smooth surface it's smooth. When I accelerate hard the front end shakes and I feel it in the steering wheel.

Any thoughts?

upgrade yours while you're at it.

I love this site - where every other site will talk about everything but the answer, this one you get the answer in two posts.

replacement is easy. theres 1 bolt going through the bushing and into the diff. pull that out. drop the crossmember by taking out 4 bolts (2 on each side). remove old bushing. pop in your new bushing or install new crossmember (if going the scorpworks route). if youre just replacing the bushing, inspect your crossmember around where the 4 bolts go. theres sleeves welded in there and theyre prone to cracking there.

if it breaks (the bolt), you'll be replacing the front carrier. So check to be sure the bolt isn't loose - if it is and you can't tighten it, don't go wheeling with it. With that said, there is a large washer that keeps the bolt from pulling through (which is where your clanking noise is probably coming from) - so it should be fine otherwise, just noisy.

It's all tight., Just noisy. I checked everything out and all is tight. That was the puzzling part. Thanks guys. Hope I can buy the parts still.

I took off the bolt and wrapped enough electrical tape around it to act as a temporary bushing, then tightened it back up as tight as I could. I did this back in January and is still holding up, lets see how long it lasts.

I've never heard a crossmember "clank". It's normally more of a "thud" that you can feel as the diff rotates up & down under load.
If it's a hollow clanking sound, it can be the CV on the rear end of the front driveshaft. When the joint goes bad...it resonates thru the tubular shaft and sounds like a hammer banging on a galvanized fence post. It's very distinct. Might be worth a look. Check for grease flung all over the floor pan at the front of the t-case.
