I have shipped about 8 sets of wheels with ties, using a freight service and never paid more than $400 all over the US. All I do is stack all 5 sets on a wooden palet and strap them down with 2 tie downs. They come to the house and pick them up or deliver them, either way - its always been about that same price.

Well I explained that was my experience and apparently that is what sgt-wright found out as a current price.
You got a better deal than UPS, at $400 rather than $500 when ever that was. If you can schedule the pickup and delivery that sounds good for somebody.
What truck line?
I don't recall the truck freight price but I remember it being higher, in my case UPS was worth it for the simplicity.

I got some quotes from Yellow-Roadway trucking. If you can pickup and drop-off at the Dallas terminal it would cost me about $750 total shipping for both ways versus about $900 to drop-off and pickup from your residence. $150 difference for a lift-gate. About $1200 to swap wheels/tires. How much time do I get to decide? The soonest I would be able to ship off my wheels would be next Wednesday then 4 days shipping time to TX. The quote I have is good for a week.

SGT, you have until the wheels are sold:)

Hunner, I failed to mention that it has been a few years since I have shipped wheels and gas prices are higher now. Just might be the difference buddy;)

Hunner I hope you can get some nice shiny chrome wheels to trade with, and go get these wheels. I know Bebe was looking for a spare. I would love to get these but I cant justify the expense right now. I will probably pay a lot more later but that is the way it goes. I am backing out of the race for the wheels.... It was definitely a fun and exciting day today. Wish I lived in Dallas, I would have the beadlocks mounted by sundown. I love my chrome wheels, so I can live with that. I am enjoying the Gobi rack I just bought last weekend, and am loading it up tomorrow for hunting season. Have fun guys and I hope the wheels go to a loving home.
Bigunit if you get them post up the pics so I can have nightmares and kick myself.... :gaah:

No chrome wheels around here. Tomp, sounds like you were looking for an easy swap but it might work to get some aluminum until you can find some chrome.
Let me know.
Least amount of work if you trade the wheels and tires like your original offer but for my aluminum then take the H3 in and have whatever tires you want on that and I take the others when they pull them. It would just take a few hours that way. Nobody has to tear down the wheels.
email me if you want to discuss details or options.

Got any pictures of you wifes 3? I would love to see it! If only you or I lived closer, I would be all over this deal even though I don't have chrome wheels (I would pick up a set off craigslist to trade). Bigunit sounds like your best choice seeing he has chrome wheels and can drive there.

Would you be willing to trade wheels for wheels plus $450? I found a set of 5 chrome wheels locally for sale that I would pick up and trade you (+cash) for the Hutchinsons. I will also pay to have your tires dismounted and mounted & balanced on the new wheels.

Sorry, but I am not interested in trading just the wheels. Part of the reason I am getting rid of them is the complexity associated with changing the tires on beadlock wheels.

tomp, we can still try to do this trade but can you meet me in Odessa? There is a Discount tire there where I will pay them to switch out the tires on your rig. What do you think?

Sorry BU, but I wont have time to drive to meet. I dont think DT will touch a set of beadlock wheels. Only an offroad shop will mount tires on them.

Yeah Tomp has been around for awhile, just not on here.
I would break them down and have the tires removed if we worked out something. However I understand if she has to have chrome.

I can share some info I ran into when I got mine from Detroit. It's going to come out anyway. On pallets they have to go truck freight. You would need to seperate them with plywood or heavy cardboard and wrap and band them. You have to ship from a business or be home with no guarantee when they will pick them up or deliver and pay for lift gate service at both ends. You can have them held at a depot and pick them up. They will give a day notice on delivery.
UPS wants them shrink wrapped. I had round plywood pieces put on both sides of mine and then wrapped.
It ran $100 EACH from there to Arkansas. To ship the chrome with tires will probably be about the same even though the weight is different because they go as odd size charge. I think the Hutchinsons are 50lbs each plus tires so the weight factors in also. That and a fuel charge is added in.
So that would be about $1000 shipping total.

That sounds awful expensive. What about Fed Ex ground? They ship some very large, weird items.

It all depends on the shipper, I guess. I relayed what I actually had to do to satisfy them at the time. The Hutchinson wheels are quite a bit heaver as well and they had tires mounted on them.
Commercial sales shipper's can get a discount as well.

I shipped 4 Hutchinson wheels, in boxes, from Orange County to Houston for about $150.00. Don't remeber exactly but I charged Auggie exact shipping. Wasn't as bad as I thought. I am almost certain they went fedex ground.

I think somehow my resulting figures got read wrong, I was just sharing what I had been thru not trying to mess with Tomp wanting a rosey swap. Truck freight was really high for wheels with tires mounted and inconvenient for me to arrange and pay lift gate service at both ends and schedule.
UPS shipping center where mine were shipped from required them wrapped. So that was $100 per wheel and with tire mounted for 4. $400 total. So wheels alone could very well be $150 to $200 but that is not what the deal was.
However shipping both ways for an exchange of two sets of wheels and tires mounted would of course be at least twice as much.
Never mind, I hope Tomps offer works for someone.

Understand Hunner. I just had something that might provide a reference point. I have also shipped 4 H2 wheels and tires from the OC to Denver for approximately $300.00. Adding the tires added considerably to both the weight and size of the shipment. On the H2 wheels and tires I put them on a pallet and wrapped them in plastic. I have also priced the same shipment at different times and gotten wildly different quotes from the same company.

Wow, you found an old pic:) The H3 caps have been changed since then. They are now the standard silver caps with black bar/stripe.

The H3 beadlocks are still available...

The H2 also has Hutchinson beadlocks. These are specific to the H2 with the OEM specified backspacing of 5.5". The look of them has also changed as they now have the black plastic caps over all of the beadlock bolts, so they appear like those on the H3.

I have decided to keep the beadlocks for now. Couldn't get a decent offer on a swap, so might as well keep rolling on them:)
