I am not an admin, but come on. This site was full of great off road info. Let's get back to what this web site was about. I have no problem with young guys asking questions. No body gives a rats $ss about light bars or the head lights that scream small pee pee. " hey, look at me and my LED's" I don't give six chits what your truck looks like! Tell me were its been.:corn:

We all start somewhere, and we all have different interests. Frankly, if this forum becomes one where people are more interested in talking about chrome rims. lighted windshield washer nozzles and which day of the week to visit Pepboys, then so be it. The forum is built to serve the contributors interests, not mine. I suspect the content, and the members contributing, will always be somewhat self-correcting and will primarily focus on the off road flavor of Hummer ownership but I'm certainly not going to tamp out other corollary interests.

You are right but I think it maybe discouraging a few and they move onto other sites. Sites for people with off road vehicals are a dime a dozen. Folks who take there family 20 miles from black top are becoming very few.

Maybe we should start a sports section or NASCAR? Oh wait, **** me! There is a site. People come and go. Mainly newer people. Some of us that have been here get busy. Still the best HUMMER forum around

Bitter much? :)

So there's some newer guys that like to do new/different stuff to their trucks, or just have no idea what they even want to do with them? It's not like they're going "Oooooh, look at this chromey bit I picked up at Autozone!" Those are the other Hummer forums. I don't see that here really.

With the headlights, I don't think they are far off the mark personally. It's a switch to HID which, I'm sorry, ARE a far cry better than the halogens GM put on back in 2006. One guy put some multicolor halo's in there while they were at it? Good for them. Hitch up yer britches and move on instead of taking it as a personal affront or assuming that they are having to compensate for the size of their genitals (which is funny you are doing that considering that is an argument people outside of the Hummer crowd like to do to us in general...).

A guy or two is maybe a bit outlandish with his mods and color matching everything? Whoopty doo. The dude still wheels it, even if he's not posting pics from every single time he goes out. Not everyone stops every five minutes to take pictures of their Hummer while out wheeling, usually it's because they went with friends that they even have pics. Otherwise they are in their Hummers driving them, not taking selfies. And without pics, any thread is worthless.

And LED light bars? Um, you realize a pretty large percentage of people on here HAVE them, right? So there are going to be questions about them or posts just showing them off (we're all wanting to seek recognition for our work no matter how small it may be). Whether or not they actually use them is not the point. Honestly I plan on getting one, but not because I do a ton of night time wheeling, but because I want to be prepared to be able to do so safely if the need or opportunity arises. Heck, I have taken my H3 offroad maybe 3-4 times since I bought it last May, I mostly use it to drive to work every day, so while I don't NEED 33" Duratracs, I like having them so that I CAN go offroad easily when I want to. Same with any other bits like a farm jack, jerry cans full of gas (or empty! maybe you want to have them on hand in case last minute you need to get out of town and want to take as much fuel with you as possible?), a 72 hour kit, a compass, etc. You won't ever use those things on a regular basis, but you have them in case you ever DO need them. Sure some of it is for looks, and if they want to do that, then fine, whatever. That is their decision and it's not going to hurt you that they made it.

Plus, it's been the holidays, and the middle of winter, and I don't think many of us have been doing a lot with our Hummers lately. So it's been quiet around here lately. Even SuperBuickGuy stopped posting updates on his FJ40 for a little bit. I was sad, I wanted to keep getting my fix of that awesomeness, but had to wait for the holidays to be over. :sigh:

And I don't think that any of the great offroad info has disappeared from the site, you just have to look for it. Why keep reposting stuff that has already been hashed out before? Plus this site is pretty narrowly dedicated to Hummers if you haven't noticed, there are numerous other sites out there that are broader in their coverage (pirate4x4 is one although that is more for the super hardcore rockcrawler crowd which seems to mainly consist of bitter and snobbish people. ih8mud and expedition portal are a couple other good ones I check out). There really isn't much on here that doesn't have to do strictly with Hummers. Which is fine by me, I can go other places for additional information that isn't specific to the model of truck I drive.

If you want to know about the H1, H2, or H3 specifically, this is the place mostly. But anything else? Forget it. You probably won't find it here, though there are people on here that could probably give you an answer if you asked. But we don't really have subforums that neatly divide that kind of stuff up to the level some other forums do and/or have anything close to the amount of information other forums have. And we are honestly a pretty specific, and small, target audience. There were only, what, 11,000 some odd civilian H1's ever made, 150,000 or so H2's, and I can't find a number for the H3's, but it wasn't all that many compared to other cars (maybe another 100,000?). That really isn't that many when you compare it to Toyota's, Nissans, or Jeeps in particluar! Those other brands you are talking decades and decades of hundreds of thousands of vehicles that are more iconic offroading vehicles WORLDWIDE than Hummers are. I mean right now there are only 15 registered members online, and that is probably the most that are ever actually active on here, though it might be as many as 30 regulars, maybe more. We've got a couple guys from Qatar, a token Russian, and a few loose Canadians rolling around, but most of us are from right here in the USA mainland. And I am fairly active on here as far as reading goes (and I post whenever I have something useful to say, or a witty comment, or a question about something someone did, or just updating my build log which I guess hasn't been super amazing to everyone else on here when you have people like Recon or Bebe :shame:), and I can see who the regulars are, and it really isn't that many. That's how it goes with such specific interests. And if you'll notice, it's the H3 forum in particular that is the busiest, hardly any new posts show up in the H1 or H2 sections, and the ones that do show up in the those sections are mostly "help this bit broke how do I fix it" kind of posts maybe once a week.

A similar thing happened with the Dodge Neon crowd, they were super popular for a while back in the late 90's and early to late 2000's, and the neons.org forum was a happening place with tons of awesome work going on (engine swaps, performance tuning, forced induction, suspension tuning, fab work, etc) but slowly it started to die off and it was just the die-hard fans left with the occasional kid who had no idea what he was doing or what he really wanted to do with their vehicle. I went on there several months ago and the activity had dropped way off, especially in the section for the first generation Neons (1995-99). And that forum was similar to this one in that it was mainly those that were actually serious about their vehicle rather than those that wanted to bling it out (or "rice it out" as the tuner's would say), there were other Neon forums that the ricers would hang out at.

So I would recommend you please dial it back a bit (your comments in the one thread about an H3 not starting were quite off the wall and honestly completely useless) because it really isn't helping. I'd rather see some noob asking silly questions without a clear goal of what engine he wants to swap into his vehicle even though he doesn't have the money for it, than a bunch of bitter snobs blasting anyone who left the chrome grill on their truck and wants to ask what are probably ridiculous questions (here's an idea, ignore them and move on). If I wanted that I would wander into the murky abyss that is pirate4x4.:corn:

I realize I'm pretty new here compared to people like you who joined a whole year before I did, but I picked this forum as my home for all things Hummer because it was the best forum I could find and was geared towards those of us that try to use our trucks the way they were meant to, and seemed to have decent people in it to boot. You talk about people getting chased off by too many posts about LED light bars and whatnot, but I would wager more would be chased away by attitudes such as your recent one. Maybe you're just venting without really thinking about what you are saying because something has happened in your life that is causing you pain, or maybe you're just a jerk. I don't really know. I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're just having a tough time right now for whatever reason so you're yelling at the kids to get off your lawn. I have been there many times myself (and is why I am a sysadmin now, it's in my job description to grumble about the developers and users and limit my interaction with people). But I refrain from doing it on the internet, especially in a forum that I want to keep nice.

And maybe I am overreacting with this reply, but I hate seeing this kind of behavior. It's hard to find places on the internet that aren't overrun by a bunch of self righteous, bitter, snobbish, trollish, mean people who have no problem hiding behind fake names and their keyboards (I pretty much never use anything other than JPaul for my screen name on forums, it's a personal choice because I'd prefer people know who I am and it helps keep me honest. I realize others like having nicknames or whatever and that's totally fine, but don't expect me to like calling them by it). So when I can find places that aren't like that (like this forum, it's pretty darn civil here), I get pretty upset when I see that kind of behavior appear on them.

And I'm sure that one or more things I have written here will be taken the wrong way, and that's just how the written word rolls. Don't think that I don't like you Woodtick, you've otherwise been a seemingly nice guy on this forum. I'd love to keep seeing that side of you, rather than this more recent outburst I've seen from you today. So, yeah, that's that. (Akward man hug, then hands Woodtick a Snickers bar)

Actually The OP has a point. We used to have people posting the runs in the calendar, posting trail reports with pictures, etc. now when people go on runs we enjoy the run but don't seem to share the experience as much as we used to. I would like to see us get back to that. I know we all enjoy the trail stories and pictures. I like going through the old runs I have been on, I like seeing trail reports on trails I likely will never run. Let's do it people!
and as Alex said, the forum will be what the members want it to be. As Admins/ Mods we can provide some direction but it will go where it goes. Being on numerous other Hummer and off-road forums and monitoring others this is by far the best Hummer forum. There are forums that might lean more to the hardcore off-roader but they are dominated by non-Hummer rigs and usually people that aren't that Hummer friendly. The vehicle appeals to people for a lot of different reasons and uses and that manifests itself in the posts. We have expedition wheelers, mild trail guys, camping and hunting guys, road trip people, rock crawlers, mall crawlers and people that just love the truck. I fall into most of those categories so I like seeing posts on many topics.
while I likely want have the time to do a build thread until I decline to participate in the work force I really enjoy them.
I have looked at dozens of trucks for potential buyers, keeping some from making huge mistakes and helping others realize a dream. I have helped who knows how many people work on their trucks, learn to wheel and made a lot of great friends.

And finally, I enjoy seeing people love and enjoy the same trucks I do, I love seeing them get excited about them, learn to work on them and wheel them. I cherish the friendships I have made, that are far too numerous for me to list here. While I may wish the forum was a little more of this and less of that it has far exceeded my expectations of a forum or experiences on any other forum.

IIRC, one member here started with a standard 09 Alpha, retrofit projectors into His head lights, LEDs into his fogs (and created a bracket for that) and then went on and documented the first 6 speed (6l80e) swap on the forum for an H3!

So if we were to be kicking out ppl for not being what others want, everyone would lose on some great potential info that might come by!

We do need to DO more off road runs. I'm more guilty of that than anybody. Can't even go play today as I wait on a new steering pump to come in.

Chill out woodtick. The only reason these guys have light bars is for.... LIGHT AT NIGHT ON THE ROCKS!!!! I bought KCs and love how they light the rocks at night but also love the look they give my rig. Maybe it's because I'm proud I have a hummer and want it to look nice eh?

I'm just saying that there is a difference between poking fun with people you know and that know you (which I see on here a lot and I think is fine), and randomly acting like a dick to a new guy for no good reason (which I hadn't really seen until that string of posts in the non-starting H3 thread). I have all kinds of sarcasm for all of you on here, but I refrain because I honestly don't really know any of you and don't want to sound like I'm just an A-hole. Poking fun at Derian if you know him is fine, but at a newb to the forum? That's just lame dude. BTW, you're the one that got his panties in a bunch first, everyone else is just commenting on the color of your panties and how far up your buttcrack they've been pulled.

If you want to see more offroading stuff, then just ask, I'm sure people will deliver. But just because everyone isn't constantly posting mudding pics or damage from rockcrawling doesn't mean no one cares or does it anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if half the reason you don't see much anymore is that it doesn't always get a lot of comments other than "nice!" if any at all. Heck, I've been debating continuing to update my build thread because I wonder if anyone even gives a rat's behind about it, even though I feel like I've been making very detailed and useful posts. But I'm a big boy and will soldier on, if at least for the fact I'll have documentation for later down the road when I try to remember how and/or why I did something a certain way on the truck.

So, if you want more of something, and less of other, ASK, and do it nicely. Don't prance around being a prick to any noob that is going against how you think this forum should be run. Switch out your panties for some big boy underwear. You'll be more comfortable and less awkward around the rest of the guys, and it'll be harder to get them in a bunch.

Wow, Woodtick, sorry if I offended you with the pics of my new LED lightbar in the "what did you do to your H3 today" thread. While my H3 has some chrome (sorry if that also offends you) and it is my daily driver, I also occasionally off-road it, and LED off-road lighting is the current state of the art, so I thought I was also welcome in that thread. I assume that the earlier pics that I posted there of my H3 in the sand dunes of Glamis WERE allowed? :moon:

I read the build threads but seldom comment because I am there to learn from what they do. I ask a question every now and then or offer encouragement from time to time but most build threads are self explanatory and require little in the way of comments.
also it is easy to read things into posts that aren't there, especially if, like you say, you don't know the person. I have been fortunate to meet many people through the forum so I have an advantage over some. Wheeling in AZ, CA, TX, NV, UT, etc has allowed me to meet a lot of forum members. They are invariably great people. They all tend to have very similar interests, attitudes and senses of humor. I have learned to take that attitude with everyone and it has worked well for me. You have seen the banter on here. As long as it doesn't get too personal take it lightly as 99.9% of the time that is how it is meant. This is directed at everyone. It is the internet. It doesn't matter. Don't let things get to you and remember that most people here are having fun and not picking on people.

Duratracs are great tires. Good chance that I will get a new set to replace my old set.

I'm hoping to make it down to the black sheep run in March. Would only be for the weekend part though probably.
