Eh.. I don't know even if it were smoother that I would still be in love with it. I emailed a local company today about actually having my grill coated with Teflon, if they can do it and the price is fair, then I think I will. If its not possible, or not a decent price, I will just have it hydro-imaged flat black.

yeah yours looks good. I dunno I think I just want to try other options.

What are you planning for your H3 rims since you have other rims ordered?

I don't have anything planned for my factory H3 wheels yet. I can't use them anymore because they won't work with the Rancho kit, but I don't know what they are worth either. I already have my black wheels that I am running on now. For now my OEM wheels are sitting in the boxes that my new wheels came in.

More wiring fun

19gl.jpg

I had a pigtail wire coming from my new radio head unit that I had to tie into the backup lamps (so when you put it in reverse, the backup camera automatically comes on) and thanks to Schwarttzy.com's wiring diagrams I was able to track down an easy wire to tie into. I did not want to tie into the backup switch because it was on top of the transmission, and I didn't want to try to find the wire that went back to the taillights. I found this wire that is underneath the fuse panel under the hood. It is the lightest green one you can see.

kqtg.jpg

Stuck the tip of my test light into the pinhole and wiggled it a little bit while pulling on the wire

and I don't like cutting all the way through a wire if I don't have to when splicing into it. Which is why I pulled the pin out, so I can slide heatshrink tubing over the soldered connection.

and then I wrapped the bundle of wires with electrical tape just as they were before, and then all of that gets tucked back in underneath the fuse panel and noone knows that I tapped into it. I ran my new green wire in through a wire loom into the firewall and into the pigtail on the radio, and now my backup camera comes on with reverse.

I also decided to put my AUX switches right here. I still have to finish wiring them in. I wanted them to be higher up on that panel but there was a push-clip on the back side that was in my way and prevented me from going any higher.

Did you find one of these lights? I had one go out on me too I ended up buying an LED version so I wouldnt be changing them ever again. It was a little project as you learned to get them out. I will see if I can find where I got them if you are interested..

I never did, it's still burnt out in my dash. I would appreciate if you can get me a link or more info, I was just going to wait to find a hummer or Colorado/canyon in a junkyard.

found them.... http://www.superbrightleds.com/products/led-vehicle-replacement-bulbs/220,221/

The 4mm size fits our panels

I went with the top ones. I don't think the bulb versions (2nd ones listed) of the LEDs were available yet. A big FYI the "cool white" show through the instrument panel as light blue. I will text you a pic tonight of what it looks like.
Before with the stock radio I hated it but I kinda like it now because my pioneer head unit changes colors to match it perfect. :)
If you are looking for a stock look I might try the bulb versions they might give more of a yellow light that would look more like the stock lights. Or maybe just change them all out at once so you wont have to rip that lower instrument panel open again? WHICH IS A HUGE PITD. That way they are the same color no matter which one you pick :) Any way man I hope that helps I remember it took a while to find the ones that fit.

Looks great. I figured out long ago that washing your ride more than twice a year is really bad for the clear coat and paint! Alrock and Dwaine can vouch for me as they see my T often

I had my first up-close encounter with an H3T today. Most of me wants one, but part of me likes the H3 more.

Just got my new diff cover. .375" flange and .25" body. Should protect that rear locker really well. Now I have to get it powdercoated.

I asked on another thread but I'll ask here too. With the fill plug being at the very top, rather than the "correct fill level" height, do I just refill my axle with the spec'd 2 liters of synthetic 75w-90 and call it good? Not really a way to know the right fill height now that the OEM cover will be replaced.

I decided just to add a fill hole at the right height. I just picked up a used HF mini-lathe for dirt cheap so I figured a weld-in thread bung would be a great first lathe project for me, rather than buy one online and wait for the shipping.

I started with just a 3" long, 2" OD chunk of steel, free from a friend. Then turned the OD and the face just enough to spin true.

Then reduced the total OD to 1.625" and drilled a pilot hole.

F6F97A50-F8FB-468E-999B-4B663427EED2_zpsmgqul8hn.jpg

and bored it out to 59/64" or .921" for a 3/4" NPT plug

FCEDCDC5-FDE0-4838-8F59-82DCC07BCF2E_zps1j46abfh.jpg

and beveled the face and necked down the OD of the rear.

12A0C876-EB28-491E-BC06-744FA8D56AD2_zpsc8wmnl5f.jpg

finished it up and cut it off

495EBEF7-4EC4-445D-8D22-AA38667A5054_zpsl4cr6jbh.jpg

and tapped the hole and finished with this. I ended up tapping the hole setting the plug a little deeper than I wanted, so I had to throw the bung back into the lathe and take some off the face. It was my first time using a tapered pipe tap.

EE32A200-5CA3-4C2C-9F54-9E832C3EEB4D_zpsmfrqeo0t.jpg

The backside of the plug was supposed to be a little less than flush with the bung, so I ended up tapping the hole like 1/8" too deep. But again, it was my first time tapping a tapered pipe thread.

Tomorrow I will drill a hole in the cover and weld in the bung.

TIG'ed in the fill plug. Decided to only weld it from the backside for a cleaner look. Also, I wasn't too impressed with the welds that were on the cover, so I buffed them off. Looks a lot better in my opinion. Now I have to decide on black or color powdercoat. Black is sure to look good, and that's kinda the route I've been going with. But also, red would look good, matching the huge-@ss tail lights, or also a nice medium blue would look really good with the black and charcoal I already have. Dunno.

Finally got the cover back from the powdercoater, and got a free minute to get it installed. Fit up was perfect.

Yay! (Not mounted, just thrown up there to make sure my rear swing-gate still opens because I'm getting the annex)

Swing gate still opens perfectly and clears the ladder where the RTT is sitting right now.

How much does it weigh?
google search says 133 lbs.. I would have guessed closer to 100 lbs. This mount is only going to be used on one trip, Easter Weekend. Then after that I should have my expo trailer finished and the RTT will go on the trailer.
