Changed the air filter and a question

So I changed out the air filter over the weekend. Is there a trick to telling whether the filter is properly seated? I stood up on the tire, and put all my weight into pushing the new filter in as squarely as possible, but it still looks like it's not quite straight. I just hope I got it right, because there really isn't anything shielding the filter from the outside world; no baffles or dead spaces to catch debris, just that grill in the upper fender well. The filter canister had a fair amount of dead bugs and other debris in it, so if that filter has even the smallest gap down underneath where I can't see, the engine is going to inhale any crap that gets inside there. I did find a couple of small bits of stuff caught in the MAF, so I have to wonder.

On another note, does anyone happen to know the bolt size for the main drive belt tensioner pulley? Apparently, there's no handy 3/8" square hole to stick a breaker bar into so the tensioner can be levered; you have to use the pulley bolt itself. I'm going on a road trip in a few days, and am bringing a spare belt just in case, and I need to know what size socket I need to buy.

The filter seats into the recess of the intake boot. Make sure it's in all the way.

The belt tensioner uses the pulley bolt and moves easily. Not sure of the size but the bolt is what you torque on. You should have a full set of sockets anyway. I keep mine under the back seat.

For the filter, I just wanted to be sure I really got it shoved in all the way. I figured out that it needed to wedge into the end of the canister (the old one "explained" that to me by being a real b@stard to get out), but pushing the new one in I just couldn't be sure it was seated straight because I couldn't quite get the right angle to push it from the bottom.

I know I need a socket set (and a long breaker bar), but for now I just need that one bolt size. Tools are on my list to get, but I've had more basic purchases to get out of the way first. I just moved back to the States in late 2014 after 4 years overseas, so I've had to re-buy things like my truck, furniture, household goods, firearms etc etc. I'm now getting to the point on the list where I start adding in the nice-to-haves like tools, comms equipment, and so on.

the filter has two notches in the closed end turn the filter until one of the notches lines up and it will drop down an sit level . That is how my 07 is.
