This is going to take a while to put together but here is my project: I'll update it the first post as I go.

2006 hummer h3 adventure 5speed

So far I have a sliight TB tweak.
Factory offroad roof lights
Sony single din
Outfitter Design LLC HD Tie rods
Outfitter Design LLC HD Roof rails

I started off this morning with an extra pair of black door handles and I modified them to go on the hood. Ill try to get a closer picture tomorrow.

IMAG0114.jpg

Then I was looking around for some performance mods and I went to home depot and built a straight tube air intake using PVC and an electricians pvc heating blanket. All said and done it cost me $20.

IMAG0099.jpgIMAG0110.jpg

Future plans:
Aluminum steering rack bushings and two piece clamp 100% done
1" Bodylift
35" mud tires
Extended bump stops rear
SPEC stage 2+ clutch
Rock sliders
Winch with a hidden mount front and rear
Custom front diff with locker
Custom built front shocks
Predator HD brush guard
Maybe 37s some day

I'm really liking that "low budget" Intake tube. Would that work for an 08 I5? If you wouldn't mind shooting me a PM I'd love a parts list and instructions :) thanks. BTW I'm digging that color

Sent from my secret lair bwaaahhahahahah

FML....

We went wheeling in western mass yesterday, just my h3 and my friends h1. We finished one trail that was a blast and had some cool small waterfalls. We went onto the next trail that was very narrow and wound along a mountain edge. The first obstacle was about a mile along this very winding steep trail and consisted of a large rock step. I went up first and made it on the second attempt. I parked ahead and went to spot my friend in his h1 up. ( I have a video in my photobucket but I do not know how to upload it here) Once he got up the ledge I got back in my h3 and put it into 1st gear 4 low and let out the clutch. Next thing I know it wouldn't go forward. I get out and find that my driverside inner tierod was a pretzel. We try to gently straighten it out but it snapped in half @#$%. I did not have any trail spares as we just used them to start building our HD tierods so we were screwed as it was 5:00PM at this point. I ended up taking a 14mm deep impact socket and hammering it onto the remaining threaded side on the outer tierod and sleeving it over the inner tierod. Then we took two ratchet straps and went through the front skid plate and hooked on each of the tierod end studs to keep the assembly together. Every 200 Feet we would snap the ratchet strap or it would come loose and we had to jack it up and tie the pieces together. The last time we had to fix the straps we were on the edge of a cliff and after the straps were tight I go to pull forward and my main rear leaf snaps in half where it wraps around the eye. :wtf: Well after navigating around the mountain and down the ledge at 11:30pm we made it out to the road. That show "One car to far" has nothing on us :whaa:.
Had to pay my friend to drive 2.5hrs out to pick us up with a trailer. We finally made it to bed around 4:30am this morning... Have to be thankful that we all made it home safe but now I have my work cut out for me to figure out the tierod upgrades and why the hell my leaf spring snapped.

Is that pic right where it happened?

Always take spares (halfshaft/tie-rod)

Glad you made it back safely.

I have never seen a leaf break in that spot, but I know plenty of the Toyota's and Jeeps do.

Thats right where the tierod went. I had just climbed a ledge about 60 feet behind which may have put the stress on it but that little rock next to the tire is what killed it. As for the leaf spring snapping what do I have as choices to prevent this from happening again? Did my 2" shackles cause this or a defective spring? I am afraid to go offroading in the future if I need to worry about a main leaf snapping. Ive owned about a dozen offroad vehicles with leaf springs and never had this happen.

With the Hotchkiss design it is hard to say, it's like a military wrap. Must have been inverted and then when you backed up it didn't unload fast enough - and then bound up = snap.

Bad sitch - not necessarily something you could duplicate on a regular basis. Not something you could duplicate easily like the front diff.

The tie-rod - don't know what to say, I have seen them break, where you have the wheels pinched and you power through. Doesn't matter how slow you do it. I have also seen them go with speed and sudden contact (directional).

Again, I have never broken one, but I have seen at least one in person :) He deserved it. LOL No shame in that - but you can't blame the component. If your gonna play you will pay!

My deavers were military wrap. Those things were bombproof

I'd love to run deavers but not sure it is worth the money $$ as it may be better to run stock springs and wait until I have the money aside to do a flat spring over for stock height or a basic 3 link.

Just ordered the 1144 stressproof hex stock to turn my new tierod sleeves. Last step is to figure out my leaf spring issue. I am still under warranty and will probably just have it replaced but what do you think of these:

http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/Old-Man-Emu-06-10-Hummer-H3-0.75-Lift-Springs-p-28523.html

They have a military wrap which is supposed to help. Does anyone know of a double military wrap for the h3?

Those will work!! Love Poly :)

BDS make a double Military Wrap Jeep spring that a lot of Toyota guys use for the front. Haven't looked to see if they make a H3 spring.

Just found this on another site damn:

"I have the OME new rear.

The lift is way more than 2in. It was probably intended to be installed with the rear bumper and 2 wheels hanging off it.

I just have shelves and a roof top tent.
I had OME on my last truck and liked it.
The ride is excellent.
It had less than 5000km when right leaf spring broke....... just outside Dalhousie Springs.
So we did not get to cross the Simpson this year.
After a few hours under the car in the middle of nowhere, I managed to rotate the spring and limped back to civilisation.
It turned out that the left spring also did not hold up, it is bent.
The shocks are still working ok.
The right spring replaced under warranty.
Waiting for left spring replacement.
Waiting for brake cable ripped in the incident.
Waiting for diff seal to be replaced as the axle ran away backwards when the spring cracked.
I believe that the spring is not made in Australia any more.
Will keep you posted."

Looks like they break even easier! Ugh

Hard to make a determination from one story. A lot depends on weight, lack of, and terrain.

I had OME Coils on the Cruiser, I thought they were too stiff, but they never failed. I suppose some more searching on forums for feed back, or give Poly a call and ask for Tommy, he'll give you an honest opinion/feedback on the springs for your application.

My 1444 hex stock arrived today. I'm dropping it off tomorrow and hopefully I will get the the sleeves back ASAP as my h3 has been sitting sad in my side yard for over a week now.:sigh:

Still looking into wheels and tires. I think after our discussions I am going to stick with stock wheels but now I need to decide between 37's and 35's. This seems to be the cheapest I can find a set of (4) 37s http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPER-SWAMP...pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr

I can get a set of (5) 315/75R 16s for less than I can get (4) 37s and also have much more street friendly options. Also I have run 35 x12.5 R 16 superswamper trxus mtrs in the past and they wore out really fast. I cant find any other brand that sells a 37 x 12.5 R16 though...

What do you think?

No opinions on the tire situation?

I am also looking to install this massive rear swaybar http://www.suspensionconnection.com/cgi-bin/suscon/7682.html and then remove the front swaybar permanently. I have removed or made disconnects for many of the trucks I have built but I really think with the H3 that I would have the same or less body roll than I have now (attached front and rear) but have a MUCH smoother ride on and offroad.
