Air filter question

I prefer the AEM Dry filter as well (run one in my Alpha), but I got a K&N for my 3.7L for free, and I've honestly never had an issue with any K&N's. You just have to clean and oil them properly and let it dry fully before sticking it back in (run an OEM filter until the K&N is ready to put back in). The AFE is much easier to deal with but both are much better than the OEM filter which I honestly think doesn't seal for crap allowing dust into your engine. At least the K&N and AFE both use a hose clamp to truly seal the filter inside the air box.

Thanks everyone. i actually had a 2004 chevy colorado with a 3.5l before my hummer. I put a k&n cai on it, and it definately added power, and was a nice product. It was just a pain in the ass to clean and oil, and clean the maf every so often.

If you over oil the K&N sure you "could" get the MAF Sensor covered in oil, but I've used them on my 4x4's since I was 18 and I never did any damage to a MAF or caused a CEL on any of my rigs. You just have to clean it properly and oil it properly, then allow it to dry before re-installing. Have I seen MAF's covered in oil and CEL's caused from over oiling a K&N? Sure I have and once I showed the owner how to properly clean/oil it they never had anymore issues.

On our stock H3 3.5/3.7L engines the OEM design air filter just sits into position and really doesn't seal 100% up to the intake inlet. My 07 H3 Adventure came from West Texas and I can assure you the MAF got exposed to more dust/dirt/sand damage vs any damage the MAF would see with an over oiled K&N Air Filter.

When I change my oil I check the air filter, then while I'm at it I go ahead and clean the MAF since it's extremely fast and simple to do anyways.
