Air Doc and Body Lift

I have been having problems with my Air Doc pulling off my airbox when wheeling the last few trips. I believe the body lift may be part of it. The airbox is tied the the fender and the engine is tied to the frame.

Anybody else out there with this combo?

That sounds odd, look at you motor mounts to make sure the engine isn't twisting too much. I would think 1" wouldn't change on the intake placement but I could be wrong.

i would also check the rubber both ends of the airdoc making sure that it is even and not hard. the rubber may have lost its pliability with the heat from the engine.
i also would check the engine mounts.

if it was popping off in stock form I would say that it is either body mounts or just not on all the way. One time I had mine pop off but that was because it wasnt on all the way.

Seeing you are body lifted I would look into the same material used for the black flexible pieces and cut them out an 1-2in longer. Essentially your adding to the distance from the intake to throttle body. If you were a mall crawler I am sure you could get away with it but when off roading you have everything rattling and moving which probably pops it off.

Well, there is actually another variable . . . but I am waiting to see if it pops off again. Apparently, my body mounts all came loose. The front right mount lost the bolt so this may have allowed enough flex between the two to cause the intake to slip off.

BTW- I added "check body mounts" to my maintenance checklist.

Maybe a bit of blue loctite (re-tightenable, not the red) would help on those bolts?

If you raise the body without raising the engine I'd imagine you'll run into clearance issues. Not sure if this applies to H3's but I would think it would be the same as a Jeep since both have fans/fan clutches. When I lifted my Jeep Wrangler with a 1inch BL it raised the chassis, but the engine stayed the same so the top coolant hose got tight/pinched, the fan would rub the bottom of the fan shroud when off roading, and the CAI I had installed had to be repositioned in order for the intake to reach properly no to mention linkage problems with the 4WD system.

On a Jeep you normally wanted to do a 1inch Body Lift and 1inch Motor Mount Lift at the same time. That way all the equipment under the hood, wire connections, linkages, and exhaust hangers both raise the same amount causing no issues. On my Jeep I did a lot of custom work with a tummy tuck, 1/2 BL, but I ended up having to install a 1inch MML to keep everything under the hood lined up properly.

I haven't seen any 1inch MML's for an H3, but I'm sure Brown Dog Motor Mounts could make some for us! That way you'd have absolutely zero issues with wiring, fan shroud, coolant hoses, or linkages. You'll gain some clearance at the oil pan, transmission pan, and if you have it lifted in the rear your drive shaft angles will be closer to stock.

I may be totally wrong with an H3 vs a Jeep Wrangler, but I'd think raising them both at the same time would be better vs one or the other.

The steering linkage is about the only thing that i needed to worry about. Everything is pretty much electronic on the H3, including throttle. I did have to do a trick with the radiator shroud, where the bottom half rotates to the top, allowing the direct drive fan to spin freely.

The more I think about it, I think the body was flexing with the front right bolt totally out. It makes total sense.

Yeah, I did that. I guess my rock bashing was enough to loosen them up a bit. At least I learned before something bad happened.

Like grease gun boy running through LCC and loss of power. Lifted the hood and had to hold it up. Cheap ass can't buy the hood support strut. But the duct was off of the throttle body

How much are those things? IIRC they were like 80 bucks so I keep putting it off lol I was going to take kyles off of his 3 before insurance took it but they were slightly bent.
