Im planning on mounting a ViAir 450C using the Outfitter Design mounting plate and wondered where people have been mounting their air tanks?

Passenger side frame rail just forward of rear axle

That's the same place I have planned for my 2.5 VIAR gallon tank, though I might end up trying to replace the resonator and muffler with a single Dynaflow Ultraflow Stainless Steel muffler in the resonator position to free up room under the cargo area and reduce the heat buildup that happens with the stock muffler right there.

Has anybody ever thought about turning the rock sliders into tanks?

Under the bed, or the muffler area for the H3's. They should look about the same.

Sounds like a good idea, though I'm not sure if there will be enough volume.

That had been the question that I had but not good enough math skills to determine. I know with mine there are ways to increase the volume especially if you built them with the intention of doing this from the start.

Not sure I'd want something meant to be hit by big rocks to be pressurized. That could end very badly.

I get your point but what happens when a tank underneath the truck gets hit?

I had the Gibson exhaust which relocated the muffler to where the resonator was removed. Left lots of room for my air system.

Hopefully the brackets bend before the tank does, but you'd have to really be in the rocks for that to happen if you've mounted the tank inside the rails. The rock rails on the other hand are purposefully exposed amd designed to have little give to them so you're just asking for trouble. I know some guys have done up tube bumpers as air tanks, but that's only marginally better than the rock rails in my opinion.
