So a bit of an update:

I am currently in Calgary, AB on a different road trip (was planning on driving home this Friday then leaving for Moab the next Friday)

I think a tooth/gear is chipped, I don't have issues 100% of the time, just when I am at a full stop and accelerate when that part of the gear is engaged..

I hope I can pull the propshaft and get home without wrecking anything further.

I have 4.10 gears but not sure if I will be able to find replacements quick enough.

I am also pretty sure my steering rack is at the end of its life as there seems to be way more play then there used to be...

So if that needs replacing as well... my mind went to selling the Rancho and other front suspension parts and cutting off all the tabs and go with 4speed's SAS setup.... lots of thinking ahead of me!

So with my new rig I was wondering if one (or several) of you can help give me guidance on the proper use of lockers while we are out on the trails. I've never had lockers before and while I've done some reading and watching youtube vids, I'd really like to have someone actually guiding me through the whole process so that I can make sure I'm not screwing something up in advertently. Particularly since I have a front locker in addition to a rear locker.

We're all happy to help. And our typical recommendation - let's avoid that front locker unless absolutely necessary. Most of what we do does not require the use of the front locker.

My recommendation on rear locker: put it on 5' before you need it, slowly roll forward to allow pins in locker to engage. Go up obstacle, turn off locker when done. As for when to use, we can address on a case by case basis.

That means the drive side of the gear is chipped, and maybe the pinion. Pulling the driveline is necessary, but you need to pull the shafts too in order isolate the pumpkin, it will keep spinning with the half shafts in pull them and plug the holes with rags and duct tape to keep the gear oil from draining out.

We drove from Ely, NV to Rocklin CA the same way and the truck was fine, but just know you run the risk of damaging the hubs. The gears are easily accessible from many vendors with overnight shipping, not a problem. Any 4wd shop can do it for you. Maybe $600.00 including parts.

Your rack may be fine, it could just be the bracket that is loose. Check the differential crossmember brackets to see if they are loose as well.

So I drained the front diff fluid and pulled the cover, only a few small metal shavings could be found in the oil and a couple of small chucks but nothing stood out as "thats what's wrong"... here are a few pic' s of what I could find
Some of the metal shavings:

Small chip in the leading edge:

Looks like some possible wear on the leading edge of the pinion:

Is this supposed to be two pieces or is this cracked?

Locker is definitely fubar and the pinion looks like it might be chipped.
I was googling the Eaton as much as I could and never saw one with the same split in it so I assumed it was not a part of the design

I don't have a picture of the front locker (I do have one of the rear), but in the rear it definitely does not have a split.

Well, three of this year's attendees are former H2 owners and two of them brought those H2s to Moab. That's as close as I can get for you.

Can't wait! Dropped off my JKUR yesterday to have all control arm bushings inspected / replaced (if necessary), recharge performance nitrogen shocks, add constant duty on-board air (I should have done this years ago), grease EVERYTHING and repair my damaged front locker from a spontaneous and unexplained gear seizure / explosion while going 70mph pulling a trailer on the way to provide aid to Harvey victims in Port Aransas(that was terrifying ... gears were replaced, we thought locker might have been fine, it wasn't).

I have replaced damn near everything and still have a rear air system leak on the Scorpion. Getting pretty damn frustrated with this leak.

Apparently worse, I can usually find the H1 leaks. Dwaine couldn't fix it, I haven't run it down, took it to a shop and they couldn't find it. Replaced the compressor, check valve, switches, soaped every fitting and line. Really has me pissed off.

Getting my ass kicked by the T right now. I haven't even started on the RZR its buried in the shed with flat tires. I'll air up the tires check the oil and throw it on the trailer. :giggle::giggle::giggle:

Use a garden sprayer with 16oz of Dawn filled with water and spray everything that holds air then look for all the bubbles.
