Since I've never been on any real trails so far, if I come down there is there anything I really have to have? Here's what I currently have the H3 outfitted with:

Thor bumper and 12K winch
Sturdy UCP
OEM rock sliders
33" Duratrac's
shackles
winch cable damper (Warn)
a couple stiff straps (one is a lightweight but the other is a 20,000 20' strap)
Tree protector strap
portable 12v air compressor
tire patch kit
minor first aid kit
farm jack
other minor misc stuff

I will likely have my CB and 2M radios installed by then as well. Water and food and such will be brought as well of course. Mechanically she is very sound, though of course I have no idea if something will decide to go on it.

JPaul, I would just add a couple of spare parts to that list - CV axles and tie rod ends, though frankly, tie rod ends have been a rare failure since the upgrade to 16mm from 14mm. To that end, you also want to have the tools to replace those parts, which are mostly basic tools but also the sockets for the hub nut and ball joints, as well as the open wrench for the inner tie rod.

You don't need much for tools as you'll be wheeling with all of us, but it's good to have these 2-3 specialty tools handy.

From the list above, sounds like you're pretty well set.

Ok, cool. I'll probably pick up an axle or two and maybe a tie rod. I believe I have an axle nut socket that will fit the H3 already. What size is it? I have a tie rod tool as well already.

I'll have two

Seriously, Jpaul, the point is that you're in good company and no one, I mean no one, will leave you hanging on the trail.
So true. We all help each other out. Don't worry about bringing tie rods. I have more tie rods flying out of my butt than monkeys! [emoji10]

Hey all, I hope this finds everyone well! It looks like I'm not going to be able to make the Black Sheep Spring trip this year for the first time in four years. The group ROM4D and I have been running down here in Texas (Freedom Crawlers) has blown up with great folks and we're bringing 8-10 rigs this year from the Austin / Houson area. We're coming up the week after you guys to accommodate a scheduling conflict one of our members had for the BS week. We already knew we'd be breaking off and running our own trails to keep group sizes appropriate, but I was really looking forward to seeing everyone around the campfire at Neo's at some point and the usual shenanigans at Potato Salad Hill, etc. There's a chance I may try to roll up a few days early to catch the tail end of the BSHS and possibly do a run with you guys. If I can't make that happen October will definitely have to be a must.

Yes, it's exactly like that. He cooks fajita's for everyone every night of BSHS week after a long day on the trails

Are we there yet? All I have left to do is new front rotors, swap CVs, new power steering pump, transmission fluid change, transfer case fluid change, oil change, tire rotation.

Do you have a new hummer yet? Seems like you've replaced enough parts to have built the whole thing all over again.

Motor (except head), a/c, alternator and electrical are original. Much after that is 2nd or 3rd Gen

I need to make a trip down to Thor parts corporate headquarters to pick up a few things. Then I should be set. I also need to decide on what model Smitty Built to buy.

CJ is having me R&D the latest off road gadget . He modified curb feelers off a 1975 Buick to be the first rock feelers. No need for a spotter. You can feel your way around rocks and trees. This is going to be bigger than Truck Nuts or Stacks. This will go great with the neon kit I found on a 1987 S10 in the bone yard. Going to Moab in style Bitches.:woot::woot::corn:
