Just got my 4l60e transmission freshly rebuild and now I'm planing to install a aftermarket transmission cooler with a E-fan and close up the radiator/tranny cooler holes. Not risking tranny fluid and coolant mixing up in the future. What size hose or fitting on the trans cooler do I get?? 10an or 6an, 3/8 hose barb or 11/32 hose barb? I'm a bit confused on all these hose/fitting sizes. Anyone know the size of the factory tranny cooler lines? Thanks in advance

I personally don't like dealing with hose barbs. If you can set it up to use all AN fittings it would look better and be better to deal with in the future.

6AN is 6/16 of an inch or 3/8 of an inch.
10AN is 10/16 of an inch or 5/8 of an inch.

3/8 is all you need.

If I mount the stacked plate cooler in front of the ac condenser/behind the grille and without* using the radiator trans cooler do I need a electric fan?? Or the wind should cool it down enough. FYI I live in Minnesota and the H3 is just use for daily driving. TIA

I'm in Utah and it gets pretty hot here. I do not have an electric fan, just the clutch fan. I have had zero issues with transmission heat since I put the cooler in. Engine temps are another story but that is an issue no matter what.

I'm in Texas and relocated the cooler with fan to under the body to help with engine overheating issues. I agree 6an is what you want. 8 is 1/2" and overkill. 10 is nuts.

I can't seem to find a 6an oil cooler. Only found 10an ones, does all oil cooler have inner 10an tubes? If that's the case then I will need a 10an o ring to 6an fitting adapter to run 6an steel braided lines. Is this correct?

Search transmission cooler. That will have 3/8 ports. An oil cooler will have larger ports.

If it has a 3/8 port then I will still need 3/8 to 6an adapter. Seems like they don't make 6an coolers but yes they do have 3/8 coolers. When I try to search for 6an transmission cooler only found *Inlet size: -10AN / 7/8"-14 o-ring female x -6AN male* meaning the cooler has 10an tubes to a 6an adapter? It will be easier if I can find one that is 6an all the way. 3/8 works also but i'll need extra adapters to make it work unless I just go plain hose clamp style

Great I'll look into it. Dumb question but my Alpha already came with an oil cooler with a fan mounted in front the ac condenser/behind the grille should I remove the fan? If I don't use the fan is it better to remove it so more air can go through the cooler rather then the fan being in the way blocking some areas? Like I said im in Minnesota weather and the Alpha is used for daily driving only city and highway.

After installing a 6AN Derale 13402 (6x13x2)in. stacked plate transmission cooler.
Transmission fluid temperature still reads 206°F
Is that normal running temp?

Ru running it standalone or after the radiator? If standalone that cooler is small. I used to run the tru cool 30K and it was more than perfect (6" x 23" x 3/4") whereis the one you posted is (6"x13" x 2"). Yes its thicker but the surface area matters more. My running temps were in 160* to 180* with 35s and heavier wheels in +115* ambients.
Another questiom, ru running a stalled TC or just the stock one?

Im running it standalone and bypassing the radiator cooler I forgot to mention.

My transmissions got a Dynamic 1600 stall torque converter

@1600 thats stock stall. But its undersized for a standalone. Either plumb it after the rad (not recommended if you have an old stock radiator) or upgrade to a bigger one. 30K was ideal for me, but I dont tow and we dont have long grades here either. Othwrwise a pusher fan will help alot.

If it doesnt have an internal trans cooler to plug into then upgrade that trans cooler or buy a small standalone one with fan and mount it remotely in series with your current one.
Generally speaking, your temps are within acceptable range but under a heavy load it will sure go way higher (towing/climbing grades) and since its not plumbed into the radiator there is no way to keep it from climbing even higher if your system is undersized (drawbacks of an air type cooler)

I don't plan on towing or off roading so I should be ok for now. I will add a fan or a larger cooler if I change my plans.

I would add the fan. 206 is high IMO for just casual driving. Adding the fan would be the easiest thing to do.

My 40k TruCool doesn't get above 150 F on the hottest of days here in FL.
