Wiring/Fuse box help

I am having a starting issue, and I have narrowed it down to two connectors on the fuse box. I have been looking through diagrams but they're very vague or I am missing something. I have narrowed it down to numbers 2 and 3 on the attached diagram. I think it is number 2 though, does anyone know what that is for, I've looked through diagrams and all I get is that list name it gives me (underhood engine harness). The vehicle will not start until I pop the hood and wiggle those wires around a little and then it starts right up so I am thinking its a connection issue or the fuse box is junk.

What does it do when it doesn't want to start?

Nothing at all, it doesnt make any noises, it just doesnt turn over. It is 100 percent normal until I go to hold it in the ignition stage and then it just doesnt to anything till I go and push around those sets of wires, then it will start right up. I have tried cleaning the connections and that didnt help either.

There are also two large connectors to the underside of that board.
Have you had any work done on the vehicle lately?
Do you have roof marker lights or off-road lights (either roof or lower grill) installed?

No roof or grill lights, also no work done other than regular oilchanges. The fuse box was replaced about a year ago though and ever since then I've had nothing but electrical issues (blown window regulators, headlights, horn)

It quite possibly is C4 (#2 on the diagram). Looking at my fuseblock there are two wires on that, a purple and a red, both larger gauge, and the schematics in the FSM appear to show the purple wire is the one going to the starter solenoid. The red wire on that connector appears to go to the air injector pump (60 amp circuit!!).

I'd probably pop that connector off and check for corrosion and clean it up, and if that doesn't seem to be the issue then check if the wire is loose in the terminal, maybe a bad crimp or it got yanked on at some point and loosened it up. Might just need to pull the terminal out of the housing and make sure the crimp is still good and/or solder it. I don't think there will be any problems in the fuseblock itself, so just make sure the part in the fuseblock isn't loose as well.

It's probably not the fuseblock itself since the power source for both of those lines (starter solenoid and air injector pump) are internal to the fuseblock.

This fuse box is a total ASS design. Disconnect the battery and pull out the entire fuse block, and check the terminals on the underside. Its very common that those two large snake heads were installed incorrectly. What can happen is one of the small terminals can get folded over sideways. Most mechanics will simply proceed with the install...bending the terminal over, and latching the plug head into place. You'll never see it until you take it apart and take a good, close look at it. I've had H3's in my shop that had this issue. Since you know already that someone did some fiddling with it before...you got a 90% chance that's the issue.

Also, for some reason...mice & chipmunks love to build nests under the fuse block. This is common too. About 1 out of 5 that comes in here, has a nest (fur, piss, sticks, etc.) under the fuse box.

And don't forget the No-Ox!

So theres a red wire thats supposed to go with that purple wire... I only have a purple wire (Keep in mind my vehicle is a 2006 i5, I dont know if it would be different from yours)

Below is what i am working with. I will take it apart like 4speed recommended and clean everything up. Who knows what else is lose, when I received my vehicle back most of the fuses werent even properly seated so I have been chasing this issue for awhile now. (I stopped going to that stealership after they complained about working under my car and how dirty it was)

Yeah, the 2006 might not have the air injector pump. Doesn't really matter anyway for your problem. But that is the wire I am talking about. Looks like someone was yanking on it by the way the wire is bent.

Pulling the whole fuse block out isn't very hard, so it's worth it to try 4speed's suggestion

Do a search in installation instructions for roof marker lights and there should be a PDF for opening and installing the fuse box.

The bottom connectors have two arms each that are supposed to lock the fuse panel into the connector. What I've seen happen is mechanics will not align there arms to the locking tabs on the panel. They'll just shove down and push the arms into the bottom connectors.
I recently had to remove my panel because of this.

I removed the connectors from the bottom case and lock them to the panel before pushing the panel into the bottom half. This way I know connectors are connected right.
If you were out here I'd do it for you.

Fuse box looked fine after I took it apart, some minor issues but I took care of them, ran the starter wire better and with the loom now, cleaned the connectors so they make better contact now so fingers crossed it works, time will tell but it started right up after I put everything back together.
