What under the plastic? (roof rails)

Hey all,
Its time to play, whats under the plastic.
Ok on the roof (which also goes down along the side of the truck where the tops of the doors are at) there is a black plastic that runs the whole length of the truck on both sides. It doesnt matter if you have a SUT, SUV, with roof rails or without... it is there.

OK, I am trying to find out if there is anything under that plastic... something solid you can drill into and bolt or screw into?

Thanks

That's where the HUMMER engineers put the magic dust in the truck that makes it a HUMMER. If you let that stuff loose your truck will turn into a Jeep and you'll get laughed at!

Actually it's the sheet metal for the roof, I imagine you could screw into it, but you'd have to be careful not to go through your headliner. I wouldn't bolt into it, you'd need to get under the headliner to make that work and not sure there would be enough strength to support much.

With as many holes that are already on the roof and keeping them from leaking, I don't know why you'd want to add any more

Why not slide a bolt and or metal plate into the channel for the rails instead.

Big2, trust me that is an option I am thinking about, but I will have to get creative then with the bracket that I wanted to make and mount.
It can be done, just wouldnt be as easy
