Subwoofer install question

Just saw a pretty good deal on Craigslist for a 2x12" sub with a 1000 watt amp I'm thinking of buying
I was wondering if I could wire it temporarily to the factory head unit and how I would do that
In the future I want to do all of the door speakers (because some don't work), and a new head unit, but I don't have the money to drop on all of that right now. Until now I just want the sub in the back wired to the factory head unit of that is possible (I will probably just grab a wiring harness of Amazon)

That's how my two twelve Memphis subs and my one Rockford fosgate punch 750w is wired. The install will be relatively simple if you have the stock 8' sub back there in the wall which is how I hooked everything up in mine. (Line output converter connected to your factory wires going into stock sub, then plug rca cables for amp into the line output converter.)

Does the base come with the 8"? I've never taken off the panel but I don't think I have a working sub back there

I think I might just go buy it today and try and figure out everything.

If I am correct, the only wire that you need to run to the headunit is the remote wire? and the rest are just the power wire from the battery to the amp and the rest are to the sub and ground? I'm pretty new to this

I put a 10 inch kicker in the back of mine wired to the factory radio. I had no sub in the back. If you have the sub already in the back, it might be a different story. Since I didn't have one this is what I had to do. So I replaced all the door speakers and put in that sub. The thing is it's a little more complicated than what your saying (if you don't have the sub back there). You have to buy a wiring harness to hook up to your factory radio and wire that to your amp. Then the sub just hooks up to the amp from there. It's fairly simple to hook up the wiring harness if you have some basic wiring skills. Now keep in mind this is the first time I have ever hooked up an amp and sub. And had to watch YouTube videos the whole time and follow them.

yeah that's basically all I'm asking, just how to wire it. the most experience I have wiring anything is my light bar which is the most basic wiring.

So you need the harness to wire the sub? You can't use the existing one that's behind the head unit. I don't believe I have the 8" I. the back because I have the storage section there and I do not see a sub behind it. I have a base h3.

I'm going to watch a bunch of videos and try and figure it out more.

Ya I got everything I needed from Best Buy. Like all the speaker wires and wires for the amp, and the wiring harness. The harness has like 4 or 6 wires that you hook up to certain wires behind the radio. You will need to look on google or the forums for the h3 radio wiring diagram. I think I found it on a forum. After that you run a couple wires from the harness to the amp.

Last summer I re-did the stereo in mine. I replaced all the door speakers, tweeters in the pillars and the sub in the back along with a new head unit.

I still have the stock amp and head unit if anybody's looking for one.

did you need to do some mods to fit the 6 3/4 speakers?

Ok so I have been trying to figure out how to color code the positive and negative wires for the door speakers since I'm getting new speakers later today
I took off a my RR door panel and the speaker had brown and yellow wires ImageUploadedByTapatalk1457444090.429956.jpg
on that it says for my base model that would mean LR
now I'm wondering if all of the color combinations are mixed up, if I can still use the listed positive and negative such as +brown -yellow even though it isn't the "correct door"

I would get the harnesses but I am very impatient and as soon as those speakers are in my hand I'm going to want to wire them

just another thought, could I cut the wires, turn my car on accessory and check to see which is running power with a volt meter?

Have you looked at the wiring section of the H3 manual on schwaartzy's site? If it's a base model (non monsoon) then the rear speaker wires in the door are both yellow and brown, it's the wires from the radio to the door harness that are the different colors.

No idea why they did that, but that's how it is. Probably because they only need one harness to use for both doors instead of making a second one just to use different color wires for the speaker. The front doors though definitely have to have different harnesses inside the door, so they were able to use the different colored wires inside the doors there.

With the Monsoon system, the right rear door speaker wiring will be yellow and dark blue, even though the wires coming from the amp are light blue and dark blue. Probably the dark blue wire is in a different pin location for the door harness.

yeah I have a base so that means both in the rear are yellow and brown I guess
so brown is positive and yellow is negative? just making sure
I'm just going to cut and then crimp connect the brown and yellow to the harness that comes with the speakers
and as for the front doors I should just check schwartzys site? I just want to know which are +/- when I crimp the wires together

A buddy and a multimeter made quick work of making sure we were wiring the door speakers in my friend's 2007 base H3.

a friend gave me 2 sets of speakers ( Sony 2 channel and pioneer 4 channel ) wired them up by just using crimp connectors
it sounds a million times better than my previous half blown out oem setup
the sonys kick pretty good and the pioneers are super clear for such small speakers but I think I may need to deaden all of the doors because some have a little rattle
other than that next up is my pioneer headunit and 2 12"s when I get everything from Amazon later in the week

I realize that this is an old thread, I searched the topic, read what is available to read, yet still have questions and I'm not sure what the proper decorum is here..I've replaced all my door speakers, head unit, I'm adding a mono block amp and a 4 channel. What I'd
like to know , since I'm bypassing the factory amp , can I wire my 4 channel speaker leads to the factory leads. I mean to cut and splice into the factory leads.

To determine if your tk has a rear sub, if you look in the back hatch door of your H3, if you see slots with holes, on the L side below the side window, then your tk has the 8" sub. If no open slots, It was part of the Monsoon stereo system.

What's not proper decorum is digging up a thread from 6+yrs. ago and then posting in it.
What is proper would be to start a new thread and then reference this link in that thread.

Ok, thank you. I'm kind of new to forums. I've seen people get scolded for posting, I just wasn't sure that if I made a new post, would I be scolded for not reading old posts? I wasn't sure what necro bumping was, but I've seen people get told...why didn't you search so and so topic? ..so yeah , not wanting to bring the gestopo down on me, I chose to start by stating the steps I'd already taken. I truly didnt intend to offend the Hummer police or create a stain on my record of asking questions. Is there a salute or secret handshake I'm supposed to know? A Hummer hiarchey ? You see , I run my business about 80ish hours a week, so maybe I missed a rule..Forgive me Hummer lord for attempting to explain why I posted here 😁😈☠️🏴‍☠️

Or hey, I know..start realizing that when you are attempting to search / research things on __________ enter your preferred search engine here, you are taken to threads on the topic, not a date..damn, bet I just violated another rule
