Looks like fun. Wouldn't need to buy a snow mobile if you had those on your rig! Any forum member in any of those really cold, snowy Northern states or in Canada have a set of those?

They are cool as hell but not $20K cool. It would be a blast to play with in the winter though . I guess for $20k and if I wanted to build something for snow, I would do something like the AEV Iceland explorer Commander. You could easily have a Rancho 4" suspension lift, Daystar 1" body lift, ARB air lockers and some 39.5x13.5 Interco Super Swamper Iroks on hutchinson beadlocks for half that. With that being said, here are some pictures from Mattracks website, these are the 88 series.

I worked with Mattracks about 2 years(long story) - unfortunately, as neat as their stuff looks, they are cumbersome. If you have a need to work in a Swamp or snow year 'round - these a the hot ticket. But for everyday use or asphalt/concrete, it is far better to stck with tires. Belive me - I thought they were the coolest things ever. Then I drove some. The top speed of any vehicle is decreased by 20-25%(yes you can drive 35mph and not have the tracks "fly off"). You can't turn worth a snot unless your in very loose terrain. They're pricey. And they rob horsepower - lots! But beyond all that, they have a cool factor that is exponential! I'm not trying to talk negative about them, and I can produce pictures of real world usage - I'm just being realistic.

I agree with you 100%, unless you are running them in the snow (mountain rescue, ski trail maintaince, etc, etc) you could never justify the cost. I couldn't imagine trying to drive on dry pavement or concrete with them.

If you have a need - then absolutely, but at $20K a set…. still expensive. the upside is in places like Yellowstone, where in summer use they do actually switch back to tires. Driving on asphalt/concrete was about what you expected, albeit rough. I never knew how much tires soak up. I could feel every imperfection in the road when I was driving.
